Summary

  • Lancashire beat Northants by 13 runs

  • Lancashire win their first T20 title

  • Davies hits 47 as Lancashire make 166-7

  • Northants reply with 153-6 at Edgbaston

  1. Lancashire 51-1 (Davies 18, Brown 17)published at 7 overs

    Target 116

Hampshire turn to spin and the slow left-arm of Liam Dawson. The slow men did the job for Lancashire, and Dawson is a little unlucky as Karl Brown dabs down on one late and takes a single behind square.

The 50 comes up as a result, but it's a tidy over with just four from it.

  2. Lancashire 47-1 (Davies 16, Brown 15)published at 6 overs

    Target 116

Fidel Edwards cranks up his speed above 90mph, but Alex Davies shows a degree of nerve and a cool head as he helps one on its way over slip for his first boundary.

A short-arm pull from Karl Brown adds four more to the total from the final delivery and Hampshire really do need something amazing now if they are to deny Lancashire a place in the final against Northants Steelbacks.

  3. Lancashire 36-1 (Davies 10, Brown 10)published at 5 overs

    Target 116

Yasir Arafat replaces Chris Wood and Karl Brown greets him by hammering his first delivery through mid-off for four.

Some of the strokes being attempted are hardly elegant, but Lancashire keep the scoreboard ticking over as Arafat concedes 10 in total.

  4. Lancashire 26-1 (Davies 6, Brown 4)published at 4 overs

    Target 116

Alex Davies drops his bat and runs through for a single without it as Fidel Edwards cramps him for room with the opening ball of a new over.

Davies is then caught at mid-wicket, but agony for Hampshire, it's a no-ball by Edwards, giving the Red Rose a free hit, although it only costs them a single.

Brown only just clears mid-on with a mistimed cross-bat mow, but eight from the over keeps Lancashire happy.

Fidel is pumped up and ready to go. He's got the wicket that was needed. Ashwell Prince was in form and the glue that keeps them together.

  6. Lancashire 18-1 (Davies 2, Brown 2)published at 3 overs

    Target 116

Lancashire don't look any more comfortable than the three other teams that have already batted on this surface today. No sign at all of the cavalier six-hitting for which T20 is renowned, no spectators diving for cover or trying to pull off a camera-pleasing catch.

Only two from Chris Wood's over puts a little bit more heart into Hants.

    Lancashire 16-1 (Davies 1, Brown 1) Target 116

Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga is a hugely successful limited-overs bowler and Fidel Edwards has a similar round-arm action. Hampshire badly need the Barbadian to pick up an early wicket and he is up close to 90mph from the off.

Ashwell Prince is discomfited by a rising delivery and later in the over drags onto his stumps to put new zest into Hampshire's fielders. Karl Brown just squeezes out a yorker to end the over.

  9. Lancashire 11-0 (Prince 11, Davies 0)published at 1 over

    Target 116

Left-arm paceman Chris Wood - 18 wickets in the T20 Blast this summer - takes the new ball for Hampshire.

At the other end, Ashwell Prince, a cricketing veteran who has seen just about everything the game has to offer.

Wood looks to the skies as a thick edge races to the boundary and Prince crashes the next ball over cover's head for a second successive four. Good start for the Red Rose county.

It is Lancashire's game to lose, surely. But cricket is a funny old game.

Maybe Hampshire can produce a miracle in the field and deny the Lightning a place in the final for the second year running.

"Hampshire captain James Vince will wonder what was going on around him during that innings.

"One after another he saw partners come and go at the other end before eventually succumbing himself as Lancashire tightened their grip on this game.

"He will take little comfort in his 69 off 59 balls with his side posting a very below par 115.

"Can his bowlers dig themselves out of a hole and pull off an almighty comeback?"

END OF INNINGSpublished at 19.5 overs

    Hampshire 115 (Edwards c and b Faulkner 0) (Briggs 5 no)

West Indian Fidel Edwards is not renowned for his batting prowess and Hampshire's innings comes to an end one ball early as he tamely chips a return catch to James Faulkner, who finishes with 3-29.

Surely this should be plain sailing for Lancashire - but maybe they shouldn't be taking chickens out to the back of the pavilion and trying to find out exactly how many they have just yet - this pitch isn't a straightforward one for batting...

    Hampshire 114-9 (Briggs 4)

A huge beer glass snake is passed around by a section of the crowd as Lancashire begin the final over of the innings, and it's James Faulkner to bowl it.

James Vince tries to smash the second delivery into the crowd, but only skies a catch to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

  16. Hampshire 112-8 (Vince 67, Briggs 4)published at 19 overs

George Edwards has bowled really well for Lancashire in this semi-final, only his sixth T20 appearance for the first team, but an attempted slower ball results in a wide down leg-side.

Skipper Steven Croft will be keen his bowlers don't gift Hampshire any more free runs and Edwards duly adjusts his line, but Vince manages to collect four through mid-off, one of his favourite strokes.

  17. Hampshire 102-8 (Vince 59 , Briggs 3)published at 18 overs

James Faulkner is going through his full repertoire for Lancashire, yorkers, slower balls, back-of-the-hand deliveries, but there is a welcome four for Hampshire as James Vince pulls to backward square leg.

Karl Brown is a little unlucky as he just fails to complete a diving save, with Hampshire's total finally limping into three figures.

  18. Hampshire 94-8 (Vince 53, Briggs 1)published at 17 overs

No treble for Arron Lilley as Danny Briggs strokes the hat-trick ball into the covers for a single. but 2-11 from four overs is a superb effort.

Given the success of the Lancashire spinners, it may be that Briggs' efforts with the ball will be crucial later on.
