The procession continues. Mohammad Irfan back into the attack and out-foxing Adil Rashid, who chips the simplest of catches to mid-on. It might have been a slower ball, then again, it wouldn't have mattered had it been a beach ball, given England's batting in the last half hour or so.

Riaz, beard and floppy hair, is round the wicket with his left-armers, angling the ball in and hoping for a hint of wobble away. Woakes is stuck on the crease, trying to manufacture something, getting a touch of fortune when a leggy delivery runs for four leg byes.

"It's not clear what the best batting order is here for England. Players like Willey, Rashid and Woakes are all capable for their counties. But what order should they be in?"

  7. Eng 174-7 (run-rate 4.46)published at 39 overs

Shoaib Malik for his final over, bowling round the wicket to this pair of right-handers. Scuttling in like a man in his slippers, elbows jutting out, line and length to concede only two singles. He takes his cap with figures of 2-45 from 10.

  9. Eng 172-7 (Woakes 9, Rashid 5)published at 38 overs

Pakistan go back to the fiery pace of Wahab Riaz, who still has six overs up his sleeve. Night has truly fallen in Abu Dhabi, and it might have covered England's chances of winning this match too. Tight field, ring in place, Test match stuff. England having to scrap for every single.

Azam actually took that one-handed in his left paw. He went with both hands, but could only use the one. Wonderful, flying stuff. In all that, England did actually find the rarest of rare things - a boundary. However, they are 39-4 in the last 10 overs.

  13. Eng 166-7 (Yasir 9-0-35-1)published at 36 overs

If you're keeping score, England have lost four wickets for 14 runs. Replays make that Azam catch look even better. Adil Rashid the new man.

"He just flung himself and it stuck in there. What a stop-start innings this has been. Through some electric fielding from Pakistan, England are seven wickets down with 15 overs to go. Can they bat out the full 50?"

What a catch! That is an absolute worldie from Babar Azam, diving to pluck a full-blooded pull from Moeen Ali out of the air. Azam is at short mid-wicket to Yasir Shah, leaping high to his left, goalkeeper-style, to take a screamer. England in all sorts of trouble. Not only are the wheels off, bu the axle, engine, steering wheel and seatbelts too.

Sam: I blame Azhar Ali, had he caught that ball off Taylor, both Morgan and Buttler would still be in.

Kev Potter in Caversham: Buttler needs a spell back in county cricket. His mind is scrambled. Doing him no favours keeping him in side.

  18. Eng 160-6 (Malik 8-0-40-2)published at 35 overs

Do England have a long batting line-up or a long tail? They're relying on the all-rounders now, with Chris Woakes at the crease. Looking again, Taylor might have just been done by a touch of turn. He got it high on the bat, couldn't quite keep it down, giving Azhar the chance to take a very good diving catch. A run a ball from here takes England to 250. That's a big ask.

"It's a big wicket because England haven't regained any momentum since Eoin Morgan got out. It's a good catch... Azhar Ali dived to his left. He also run out Jos Buttler earlier.

"Because England lost three wickets early on, they don't have much to spare now. Pakistan still have overs left from Yasir Shah and Wahab Riaz. They are in a good position now."

For the second time today England have lost three quick wickets and look to be in real strife now. It's the one Pakistan really wanted, James Taylor. He dances at Shoaib Malik, flicks in the air to mid-wicket, where Azhar Ali takes a very good diving catch. "They've 'ad it now," says Marc Higginson in his Bury twang. I concur.
