"Hafeez started with real intent, but he lost his momentum and in the end that was quite a tepid dismissal. I guess he was trying to flick it to fine leg, but he just paddled it to deep square-leg. It's perfect timing for England."

Pakistan had been having a lot of success with sweeping to the square-leg boundary, but Hafeez, who was dropped by Willey on 34, top-edges to square-leg and it's caught by Joe Root 10 yards in from the boundary. Bit of a nothing shot from Hafeez, who seemed in two minds how to play it.

Difficult catch for Root, who was looking up into the evening sun as he took it.

Russell Anderson: Brewing up nicely this one...Be good to see England chase around 280, let's see what they've got.

  4. Pak 130-2 (current run rate 4.48)published at 29 overs

Both batsmen look more comfortable against the pace of Willey than Moeen's spin - they get just two from the offspinner's next over.

  5. Pak 128-2 (Hafeez 43, Sarfraz 24)published at 28 overs

The two Pakistan batsmen both adopting a watchful approach at the moment, punishing any bad balls that get sent their way, nurdling around anything else.

6 off the over from Willey, five of them singles, one wide.

In the crowd, a boy holds a sign saying 'I left school early to watch Pakistan fireworks'. He'll be looking forward to the end of this innings

Football Fragmento: From nowhere Rashid bowls a maiden. Pak 113-2 off 24 overs. You'd think they'd want to make about 280 from here.

  9. Pak 122-2 (Moeen 6 overs, 0-24)published at 27 overs

Sarfraz once again tries to go down for the sweep, but mistimes it. The England spinners have put the brakes on Pakistan's progress a little with just one off that over.

David Willey now coming back into the attack to replace Rashid. Willey's three overs have gone for 9 so far.

  10. Pak 121-2published at 26 overs

Sarfraz, batting in his cap with spin coming on from both ends, throws his hands at a wide one and hits Rashid through extra cover for four.

"That's a pretty decent over from Moeen. He chopped and changed his pace nicely."

  12. Pak 115-2 (Hafeez 40, Sarfraz 15)published at 25 overs

Better from Moeen - just 14 runs come off the last four overs for Pakistan. Hafeez tried to sweep him this time, but mis-timed it and they take just two off the over at the half way mark.

"This is a good pitch, even though it's not a typical Sharjah pitch where you get a bit of sheen. Pakistan have got to plan their assault, they need a bit of a partnership, but they could be looking at 300."

  14. Pakistan 114-2published at 24 overs

That dropped catch seems to have checked Pakistan's progress a little as Rashid sends down a maiden to Hafeez.

Shadows lengthening already in Sharjah as local time ticks past half four.

  16. dropped catch

    Pak 113-2 (Hafeez 39, Sarfraz 14)published at 23 overs

    Dropped catch

David Willey can't hold on to a wide drive at extra cover from Hafeez. Would have been a fantastic one-handed catch if he'd held on.

Once again, Sarfraz sweeps Ali for four backwards of square leg.

  17. Pak 104-2published at 22 overs

Sarfraz has come out with a bit of intent. He edges one down to third man, which will give Rashid a bit of a boost, but it's a more disciplined over from the Yorkshire leggie. Three off it.

  20. Pak 95-2published at 20 overs

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed - wearing a cap rather than a helmet with the spinners on - is promoted to number four, he's already up and running with a couple of singles.

And Zafar Gohar isn't the only ODI debutant on duty today - as the next passage of play will be described by an ODI live text debutant, Mr Tim Peach.
