  2. Who is Zafar Gohar?published at 10:38

What can I tell you about Pakistan debutant Zafar Gohar? He's 20 years old, was born in Lahore, and is a left-arm spinner who bats left-handed. He'll be familiar with Sharjah, and England, having played for Pakistan A in those two warm-ups before the Tests.

He plays his domestic cricket for Sui Southern Gas Corporation, also turning out for Islamabad Region in T20, In List A (limited-overs) cricket, he has 36 wickets at 20.77 in 19 games.

  4. Captains' viewspublished at 10:33

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali: "It's a very good pitch to bat on and we'd like to put runs on the board."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Not a lot of our focus goes on what Pakistan are doing, if we can build on what we did in the last game, hopefully we can learn on our feet and adapt to conditions."

  5. Pakistan win toss and batpublished at 10:31

Pakistan have won the toss and will bat first. They're without the injured Yasir Shah, so slow left-armer Zafar Gohar makes his debut. England are unchanged.

I have to mention this - the captains are accompanied at the toss by an extraordinary white figure who looks like a cross between a Michelin Man and a helmeted space alien (with a bit of The Stig thrown in). We'll get you a picture if we can (perhaps blanking out the massive sponsor logo on his tummy).

"I feel now is the best time to say goodbye. I have been lucky enough to have had a wonderful career and enjoyed every moment of playing for my country. It’s been an incredible ride. “But the ride has to come to an end at some point and to do so here at the Waca is very special. “I’ve given the decision a lot of thought. Beyond this match, I’m just not sure that I can continue competing consistently at the level required to wear the Baggy Green."

Yes, England fans who went to the 2013-14 Ashes can sleep a little sounder in their beds from now on - Australia left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson has retired from international cricket following today's drawn second Test against New Zealand in Adelaide. After 311 wickets in 73 Tests, the fire-breathing dragon, who bowled to the left and bowled to the right, is no more.

  8. Postpublished at 10:25

Morning, everyone. The one-day series has moved on from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah, but the questions remain: will we see the England side who collapsed in game one, or the side who cruised to victory in game two? We're five minutes away from the toss.

Meanwhile, first of all we have a bit of news. A pantomime villain who became a dark destroyer is hanging up his cape...
