"The communication wasn't great. The batsmen will be frustrated. because they were going along nicely. This is an opportunity for England, and Rashid in particular, to tie things down a bit."

"It was a really good piece of fielding. Taylor flung himself, and as we've seen throughout this series, he gets up so quickly and gets the throw away so fast."

A great piece of fielding from James Taylor removes the Pakistan captain - Hafeez pushes the ball towards backward point and immediately sets off for a run, Taylor fields the ball at full stretch and throws down the stumps before Azhar is even in the picture. Great work by Taylor.

Rowland from Hitchin: We first greeted Mitchell Johnson with glee, mocking him for spraying it around. Then he grew a Merv Hughes moustache and brought a pace and aggression not seen in for years and tormented the England batsmen. This summer we managed to exorcise the demons, but Johnson’s spectre will linger long in the memory!

  5. Pak 91-1 (Azhar 35, Hafeez 32)published at 19 overs

Moeen Ali resumes proceedings after drinks, and he's tidier than his fellow spinner Rashid for now, only yielding three singles. A brief appeal for a stumping - but there's nothing doing as Hafeez kept his back foot grounded.

"Pakistan needed to up their performance from the last game. They've found a way to maintain a good balance between being aggressive without being kamikaze."

Having spread the fielders far and wide, there are easy singles to come by for Hafeez, who has 31 from 27 balls. His skipper has 33 from 51. Time for some beverages.

"This is the way to play the leggie. We know his confidence is a bit shaky, he's had a difficult tour. He's not bowling long-hops and rubbish, but he is dropping a few short."

  9. 6 runs

Rashid skips in for his fourth over, Hafeez sends the crowd into raptures again as he swats the Yorkshire leggie over cow corner for his second six. Ouch.

"The Pakistani batsmen are tending to take the aerial route today. There's not much in the outfield so they might as well get their hands through it."

  11. Pak 79-1 (Azhar 31, Hafeez 24)published at 17 overs

Woakes is off after five overs and off-spinner Moeen Ali is into the attack, Pakistan don't quite go after him as much as they did Rashid - just three careful singles from the two right-handers.

    "They're after Rashid."

  13. Pak 76-1 (Rashid 3-0-22-0)published at 16 overs

Hafeez rotates the strike, and Azhar shovels a single down to fine leg - that's easily Pakistan's most profitable over of the game, 13 from it.

  15. 6 runs

    Pak 74-1published at 15.4 overs

Not much bounce or turn for the spinner so far - and Hafeez goes big again, lofting Rashid over the leaping mid-on fielder for four and then clubbing him for s straight six. These straight boundaries in Sharjah aren't the longest...

"In the last ODI, Woakes started varying his bowling and bowling a few cutters, having gone wicketless in his previous six ODIs, and looked much more effective."

  17. Pak 63-1 (Azhar 27, Hafeez 12)published at 15 overs

Woakes, a dark towel tucked into the left side of his waistband, is thrashed through extra cover for four by Hafeez, and just for once there's no blast of loud music over the PA system, to the relief of Vic and Kevin Howells on TMS. Pakistan's remaining batsmen watch, pensively, as England otherwise keep it tight in the field.

"The series is level at 1-1 and this game feels pretty level as well. Fairly even stevens."

  19. Pak 57-1 (run rate 4.07)published at 14 overs

The second ODI on Friday was Adil Rashid's most economical performance in an England shirt - taking 1-32 from his 10 overs. Here, he has 0-9 from two as Pakistan nudge, nurdle and sweep their way to four singles from the over.

  20. Pak 53-1 (Woakes 4-0-17-1)published at 13 overs

Easy accumulation of singles by Pakistan at this stage. Azhar Ali has 24 from 40 balls, Hafeez has five from eight.
