  2. Eng 18-2 (Vince 0, Moeen 0)published at 3 overs

Moeen Ali and James Vince are the new men at the crease, and Pakistan are in attack mode - there's a slip in for Anwar. This surface is looking just a little bit deceptive, with cross-bat shots hard to time, and mindful of that, Moeen plays out three dots from the rest of the over.

"It was yet another leading edge. That reached mid-off easily. England are in a spot of bother."

    Hales c Afridi b Anwar 8 (Eng 18-2)

England's openers are back in the hutch and Alex Hales can't say he hasn't had chances. He tries to work Anwar into the leg side, gets a big loopy leading edge and Shahid Afridi does the rest. England wobbling.

"It was an over of contrasting emotions for Sohail Tanvir. It was all going pear-shaped until that last ball. Roy got it on the splice and it looped fairly gently to mid-on."

  6. wicket

    Roy c Imran Khan b Tanvir 9 (Eng 16-1)

The ball after swatting a slower delivery for four, Roy cloths one off the top of the bat and picks out mid-on. Redemption for Tanvir, frustration for England's opener.

  9. dropped catch

    Eng 11-0

Oh my word, what has Sohail Tanvir done here? He induces Hales to pop up a dolly of a return catch, parries it up in the air with one hand, and then trips as he goes to collect it at the second attempt. Incredible. Hales survives again! And he punishes Tanvir with a four off the next ball.

Liam Johnson:  Despite being a Hampshire (and by default Vince) fan, I am completely baffled by why Buttler has been left out.

  11. Eng 5-0published at 1 over

Ooh, what's happened there? Hales drives the ball into the pitch, thinks it's going to bounce over the top of Anwar Ali and sets off. But Anwar snakes out an arm to snag the ball and has a shy at the stumps. Hales dives back desperately and is relieved to see the ball fly wide off the timbers - he would have been gone. Reprieved, Hales gets off the mark with a single worked into the leg side.

  12. Eng 3-0 (Roy 3, Hales 0)published at 0.3 overs

Anwar begins with a slower ball. Roy is off the mark next ball with a nice punch through mid-on, and greyhound-like running fetches him three runs. Hales's first stroke is unconvincing, a waft at a widish ball that shapes away.

Ben Nicholls: Why aren't we playing our best team available? Why does Buttler need a rest?

Kevin Ticehurst: Hopefully we will leave this tour, with another trophy under our belt and momentum going forward to the SA tour and beyond.

For Pakistan, there's a new face at the top of the order...but it's not a particularly young one. Rafatullah Mohmand makes his first international appearance today, at the grand old age of 39 years and 20 days. Will it be worth the wait?

"One player that we've seen do something amazing recently is Jos Buttler. If we look at the dip of form he was in, then what he's done, if you were told that you're not playing, you'd be livid. These three T20s would have been really important for him."
