14:04The wicket is covered by a green sheet, but that's the only thing shielding the square. There's drizzle in the air, but it's not really raining. Table Mountain has disappeared, swallowed by the pesky clouds.

Len Morrison: We may be hailing Bairstow and Moeen as heroes, but England threw away a winning position when we dominated. Much work ahead.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special"If England get a solid top four then I think they can go to number one in the world. Their lower middle order is as good as any in the world. Cook and Root are quality but there are question marks over the other opener and number three."

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special"South Africa have fought back well. Amla deserves a lot of credit for his innings, but you wonder what would have happened if England had held their chances."

Mike Bell: Cricket will die if two tweakers, bit of gloom, lights on,is deemed too dangerous. In an age of progress, do we age or progress?

13:52The covers haven't been pulled on, but there's no sign of that light improving. We're on stand-by for this game being officially consigned to the history books.

BBC Test Match Special"It feels as if that could be it, even if it isn't officially because the overs will start dropping quickly. England supporters are hailing Bairstow and Moeen as heroes. And the England dressing room looks like they think they've saved it, but it's not the end yet."

Jonny Bairstow checked with the umpires as he walked off, presumably to see if the match was over. It isn't yet, but it's hard to see how or why we'd go back on. In fact, rain has just started to fall.

The light has intervened and the players have been ordered off. I think Hashim Amla intimated that he was going to give the ball to Morne Morkel, so the umpires decided it was too dark. Deliberate ploy by Amla?

13:45We're breaking records for the speed an over can be bowled here. I reckon Dean Elgar might be able to get it down below one minute. Not great for the text commentator. It's still quite dark by the way.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special"If I was England, I'd have batted on to 700. They were so much in the ascendancy. It's not right or wrong, just my opinion."

13:44If the two skippers feel that this game is done, they can shake hands when 15 overs remain. There's probably still an hour before that, unless the weather intervenes. Then again, the way these spinners are rattling through the overs, it might come a lot quicker. Piedt to Moeen. A maiden.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special"I scored every time I batted, I counted every single one of my runs. I didn't need the scorer. Quite often I disagreed with the scorer. One time I got 170, but they had me down as 140."

13:42Jonny Bairstow could well get 200 unbeaten runs in this Test and not be man of the match. Still Elgar, who shrieks when the edge is taken. Apart from that, not a great deal is happening apart from the players going through the motions. Perhaps petering out.
Eng 157-6 (Bairstow 28, Moeen 10)published at 62 overs
62 oversLet's say it is too dark to face fast bowling. If Cook declared now, then unleashed his pacers, would that be game over? Moeen is surrounded by four close catchers as Piedt comes round the wicket. Once more, the best beard in the match shows solid defence.
