Hashim Amla and Moeen Ali are playing today but, for me, the best beard on show belongs to Imran Tahir. Wonderfully manicured. He whirs away, arms whipping like an ice cream, floating a leggy into the arc of Ben Stokes. Slog sweep, full swing of the bat, over the head of the man at deep mid-wicket for the first maximum of the day.

"Teams seem reticent to use former players for advice because they work in the media. But South Africa should be using Shaun Pollock to give advice to Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada. He could give so much knowledge."

  3. Eng 144-3 (Hales 76, Stokes 22)published at 26 overs

Incidentally, I once split up with a girl because the cricket season was starting. A good decision. Ooofff, that's brutal from Stokes, belting a Chris Morris half-volley back down the ground for four. Morris, who roughed up Joe Root earlier on, is going at nearly eight an over."

Thanks, Higgo. Quite a build-up. When I arrived today, Mr Higginson asked me if I would be romancing the future Mrs Shemilt this evening. I'm not, I'm going to nets instead. Do let me know your tales of cricketing romance, or when you've chosen cricket over romance.

"Wiese bowls too many easy balls on the leg stump, too many 'bread and butter balls'. The great bowlers, like Glenn McGrath, might have given you one a session."

Be honest, what do you really want for Valentine's Day?

Yep... 25 overs of Stephan Shemilt.

He's in a good mood today, and arrives at the live text crease with England celebrating another 50 partnership, which is brought up at more than a run a ball. Laying platforms etc.

    Over to you, Stephan.

"England are doing well. If they are really honest about it, all three wickets have been their own fault."

  9. Women's ODI: SA v Englandpublished at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2016

    SA 85-6 (27 overs)

It's now five wickets in 10 overs for Mark Robinson's TMS stint - and a third victim for pace bowler Anya Shrubsole, who has 3-10 from seven overs.

  10. Eng 132-3published at 24 overs

Alex Hales plays a dreamy cover drive. The type which you'd want to wrap up and put a ribbon on.

The ball is outside off stump, and Hales, on the rise, creams the ball through the off side. With a cherry on top.

Is this one of the most underwhelming trophies you've ever seen?

It's a like an antique wine goblet.

West Indies, chasing 146 to beat India, are 110-5 in the 42nd over.

    Here's the scorecard.

  12. Eng 126-3 (Hales 69 off 72)published at 23 overs

Imran Tahir is off the field, having treatment on a sore heel. Get a plaster on it. New shoes do rub, don't they?

Alex Hales is batting wonderfully well now, slashing David Wiese through backward point for his ninth four of the match. A man in total control.

  13. Women's ODI: SA v Englandpublished at 09:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2016

    SA 81-5 (20 overs)

England have taken four wickets in eight overs since new head coach Mark Robinson joined the TMS team on commentary! Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk have both departed without scoring.

  14. Eng 117-3 (Morris 4-0-33-0)published at 22 overs

Chris Morris curses as he ends a decent enough over with a slider down leg which Alex Hales helps on its way to the boundary. The hundred's on for Hales.

    Text 81111

I love this new England team, and can take the odd 100 all out the way they play, but there has to be some more brain engagement as regards to Morgan there. The rate is fine, that was totally unnecessary.

"Morgan struggles around off stump, that's why he couldn't hold his place in Test cricket. Stand still and bat. I think he should bat at six. At that point, the game is set. At four, there's often something there, good bowlers get it to nibble and he struggles."

  17. Eng 109-3 (Hales 62, Stokes 6)published at 21 overs

Ben Stokes, on the walk, edges down to third man with the type of shot which brought Jonathan Trott so much anguish in the latter days of his career. Stay still and hit the ball hard, Ben. He dances down the track again and is beaten on the outside edge.

    Mmmm.

Alex Hales' five consective ODI half-centuries has equalled the record for England batsmen in ODIs. It's jointly held by Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Jonathan Trott and, erm, Geoffrey Boycott.

  19. Eng 105-3 (Tahir 6-0-23-2)published at 20 overs

Ben Stokes looks all at sea against leg-spinner Imran Tahir. He doesn't look at all comfortable. Googlies, wrong uns... you name it, Stokes can't hit it.

Alex Hales is not having any issues though, hitting four through backward point.
