    Eng 43-1

Chris Morris is man-marking Joe Root here. It's as if he's been told to really get about the England run machine. There's a leg gully in place and Root clips a lifting delivery round the corner, just inches from the outstretched hand of the grabber on the leg side.

Morris straightens up, gets Root driving and Hashim Amla shells him at first slip.

Alex Hales is only the third England player to register four scores of 50+ in a bilateral ODI series for England (Pietersen and Morgan).

South Africa have come out hard at England, who have responded with a few stinging counters of their own.

Joe Root has a bit of terrier in him. He never takes a backward step.

Alex Hales too... the in-form right-hander beginning another over with back-to-back boundaries.

"Joe Root is in under pressure again. He can't keep doing it, someone else has to get some runs."

  7. Eng 30-1 (Hales 10, Root 10)published at 6 overs

It's all a bit frenetic with Joe Root. He's off the mark with a boundary, is rapped on the hands by a Chris Morris bouncer, and then hits another four.

Morris is bowling some seriously quick stuff here. A plan for Root?

  8. Women's ODI: SA v Englandpublished at 08:28

England's women have made a good start in their third and final ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg - after Charlotte Edwards won the toss and elected to field, Anya Shrubsole started with a wicket maiden. SA are 13-1 in the seventh over.

Alex Hales carries on his merry way with a clip for four through square leg. However, he then scampers a quick single and is almost run out by AB de Villiers.

Let's be honest, taking a quick single to AB is playing with fire. Eventually you will get burned.

"That's poor. Roy should have picked that. He just missed it. That's an ordinary leg-spinner hitting three-quarters up middle stump and he's trying to work it to mid-wicket. He deserves to be out."

Interesting... South Africa win the toss on a damp pitch and turn to the leg-spinner Imran Tahir after just four overs of pace.

And it works a treat! After almost chopping on to the previous ball, Jason Roy is squared up by a slider and is pinned in front. Plumb.

He looked more confused than a drunken bear as he dozily wandered down the track to ask Alex Hales about a review.

    "You're out, mate. Sorry."

  15. Eng 12-0 (Roy 7, Hales 3)published at 4 overs

Jason Roy is lucky. He pushes a single to AB de Villiers at mid-off and sets off, having to take a detour round Kagiso Rabada, and he's lucky the ball doesn't connect with the stumps. If it did, Roy could have carried on running. To the dressing room.

  16. Eng 10-0 (SA won toss)published at 3 overs

It's a quiet morning in Cape Town, where the world is slowly coming back from underneath shelter after a morning deluge. Just one run from Kyle Abbott's second, much more accurate, over.

  18. Eng 9-0 (Roy 5, Hales 3)published at 2 overs

Kagiso Rabada, who has an action smoother than silk, is greeted by Jason Roy with a lofted drive over extra cover. It brings the batsman two runs, but the bowler isn't cowed and he floats another outswinger up which Roy fails to connect with. An awful air shot.
