Afg 140-4 (Target 210)published at 15 overs
That over started badly for SA but ended well as Wiese rallied. Afghanistan need something special now. The kind of over De Villiers produced off Rashid earlier.

That over started badly for SA but ended well as Wiese rallied. Afghanistan need something special now. The kind of over De Villiers produced off Rashid earlier.
Sami is lucky to avoid being run out as he takes a quick single off Wiese and the bowler is just a few inches off a direct hit after gathering sharply.

"Nabi keeps trying to back away to leg and it's not helping him. He can't reach the ball."
Afghanistan need a big over. They are given a helping hand by Tahir who completely fluffs in the field to allow a sliced cut from Nabi to go right through him for four.
Morris is Du Plessis' go-to man today. This is another good over but it does include an outside edge that brings Sami four down to the rope at third man. Afghanistan just won't go away.
There is the Afghanistan response. Sami smashes a four through cover and then takes Wiese for another boundary by swivelling to punch a short ball through backward point. I imagine Dale Steyn is a very frustrated man, sat on the sidelines watching this seam attack.

"I think Afghanistan had enough time to play Tahir more discreetly and wait to take on the seamers. You'd suspect South Africa are in control now."

Edward: Nabi and Shenwari are excellent batsmen as seen in the qualifiers. Najibullah a good finisher as well. Afghanistan still in this.
Samiullah Shenwari is the new man. Just four runs off the Tahir over, and another wicket. That is two important overs on the bounce for SA. Afghanistan need to hit back.
Noor Ali st De Kock b Tahir 25 (Afg 109-4)
The momentum is shifting. Tahir returns and strikes, bowling Noor Ali as he looks to swipe a decent length ball to leg, misses and is stumped. You would think SA have this under control now. But, the memories of that England game are still fresh.
That wicket prompted a huddle from the South African team and some serious words, spoken by Hashim Amla.
Mohammad Nabi is the new man and he adds another run. South Africa needed that over. So did Abbott, after going for 30 in his previous two.

"If you can bowl quick, the shorter ball is not a bad option, particularly against a side that isn't used to playing on pitches of this pace. But this match is not a done deal yet."
Gulbadin c De Kock b Abbott 26 (Afg 105-3)
Well, the win predictor now says Afghanistan have a 51% chance of victory. It is the first time it has been in their favour. Not that it really means anything. To emphasize this, the returning Abbott strikes with a shorter, slower ball that has Gulbadin attempting to cut and caught behind by De Kock. The South African celebrations are modest, but that is an important strike for them.
Afghanistan move to three figures with a flick by Noor Ali off Wiese to take the ball past Morris for six. I think the sun played it's part there, with the fielder failing to pick it up in time. What now, Faf?

"Du Plessis has got real problems. He's got two go-to bowlers, Tahir and Morris, but he can't trust the others at the minute. And he doesn't have Duminy, who was quite economical against England."
Tahir's over was going great for SA until the last ball, which is wide and smashed over extra cover for six by Gulbadin. I'd love to know what is going through Faf's mind right now. It might just be an image of himself, curled up in a foetal position, crying.
There is a lot of love for the Afghanistan side in the stadium. They've earned it.

"I think we can safely say that Afghanistan are undaunted. They may not win this game, but they are not frightened of having a go. If they play well from here, not even brilliantly they won't be far away."
