The Beatles changed music around the world, went from simple pop songs to almost classical compositions within 5 years and were lauded by classical composers and writers. The Back Street Boys were a good looking pop band.

  2. SA 92-2 (De Kock 44, De Villiers 1)published at 10 overs

ABDV is the new man, and he's off the mark with a dabbed single.

"It is a brilliant piece of fielding. Off he goes. What a careless moment. He smashes it to cover, who hurls it back. He had taken a couple of strides in order to take the shot but was very casual in getting back."

Du Plessis run out (Nabi) 41 (SA 90-2)

Yes, he's gone. What a very strange dismissal. He smacks the ball to cover, takes a couple of steps down the wicket, stands and admires, and when Nabi hurls the throw in, he's too late in getting back. Very careless indeed.

Hello there! I think Faf du Plessis might be gone here, run out...

"He has bowled well Rashid. He hasn't bowled a bad ball. Even the swept four was a good ball. He gets quite a lot of pace on the ball. He is an exciting bowler."

  7. SA 84-1published at 9 overs

He's an old-looking 17, Rashid Khan. Quinton De Kock on the other hand is six years older, but looks so youthful that you half-expect to see a catapult hanging out the back pocket of his short trousers. Du Plessis sweeps just in front of square for four.

"This is a first. It was almost a long-hop from Nabi and Du Plessis moved back and planted over wide mid-off for six. That is the last place you would expect that ball to end up. I have never seen that before."

  9. 6 runs

SA 76-1 (run rate 9.50)published at 8 overs

Oh, that's big from Du Plessis, a huge strike over mid-off for another maximum. He almost had one hand off the bat when he hit that.

  10. SA 68-1published at 7 overs

60 of the 66 runs so far have come in boundaries. Time for Rashid Khan, the 17-year-old leggie. Immediately De Kock looks more uncomfortable, missing a googly. Excellent over, just one run.

  11. Backing the boyspublished at 10:00

The stadium is far from full in Mumbai but Afghanistan have a decent backing to cheer them on. Looks like Mohammad Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari are winning the battle for forehead space.

"Dawlat has bowled what we used to call a good length. If this was a Test match that is where you would look to bowl. I don't think we can call that a good length in this format. When you consider that he went for 12 from the first two balls, to go for 17 is a bonus."

  13. SA 66-1 (De Kock 38, Du Plessis 22)published at 6 overs

Faf has shown a nice mix of delicacy and brutality so far in this innings - this time it's the former, backing away and late cutting Dawlat down to the third man boundary.

  14. 6 runs

    SA 61-1published at 5.2 overs

Kablammo! Consecutive sixes for Quinton de Kock, first battering Dawlat down the ground, then backing away and carving him over point. Taking into account his innings against England, he now has 89 runs off 41 balls in this tournament.

  15. SA 49-1 (run rate 9.80)published at 5 overs

More from Shapoor. Great hair from the left-armer, wild and untamed like an Argentinian footballer of the 80s - in his rapid run-up it sticks out horizontally like a windsock. De Kock is on fire here, crunching him through the covers for four. And Du Plessis is in no mood to play second fiddle - he shimmies down the track and brutalises a short ball over cow corner.

"We are getting a contrast in surfaces. If you err in line or length it doesn't cost you one or two, it costs you four. If you go to Kolkata, it turns a lot. There is a lack of bounce."

  17. SA 38-1published at 4 overs

Ashgar Stanikzai is mixing it up like an overzealous wedding DJ. He makes another bowling change, bringing on Mohammad Nabi for some classic slow jams. Du Plessis was a little conservative against England and he's come out determined to bat more adventurously today, backing away to drill Nabi through the off-side, then loft him inside-out over long-off.

  18. SA 30-1published at 3 overs

Faf du Plessis is the new man, and he's immediately off the mark with a very delicate late dab down to the third-man boundary.

"It was a very simple catch. Amla didn't time it all. He does make some extravagant movements and most of the time it works. But the bowler wasn't put off by the little walk. That was a length ball, outside off stump, he went to flay it and didn't catch it at all."

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.4 overs

    Amla c Ashgar b Shapoor 5 (SA 25-1)

Well well. Ashgar turns to the left-armer Shapoor Zadran - one of the men to come into the side today - and he makes the breakthrough. Amla hadn't looked quite as fluent as De Kock and he mistimes one looking to hit over the top.
