Ben Stokes is the new man - the hitters keep coming for England. He;s off the mark right away, pulling his first ball from Russell for four.

"It's a big boundary. Jos Buttler's shot was justified - with just over two overs left. He didn't quite middle it though, certainly not by his own standards."

    Buttler c Brathwaite b Bravo 30 (Eng 152-4)

Jos Buttler goes! Just after sending Dwayne Bravo into the stands, he picks out Carlos Brathwaite at long leg. It was a full toss, Buttler would usually eat those all day long, but didn't find the middle.

  4. 6 runs

    Eng 150-3published at 17.3 overs

Oh yes! Jos Buttler is finding his range and hits that second tier again. Dwayne Bravo round the wicket, Buttler picking the slower ball and swiping over cow corner for six. 150 up.

"Sulieman Benn's figures took a real dent in that over. A very handy one for England. Can this pair have a magic spell and really go for it now in these last three overs? Ben Stokes and Chris Jordan are limbering up... Stokes is ready to go at a second's notice if necessary."

  6. Eng 142-3 (1-6-0-1-2-4)published at 17 overs

And another poor delivery from Benn, a full toss blasted back down the ground for four by Morgan. England take 14 from the over.

Feetttccchhhhhh! Too short from Benn, whacked into the second tier by Buttler. England had stalled slightly, so need a few more of those.

Sid Sidowski: I am so so so sorry. I have turned the computer off and returned to wallow in redundancy misery. #sorryRoot, external

Dolphin surveys? Really? In my younger, more foolish days, I used to say I was a dolphin trainer as a chat-up line. Never worked. Jos Buttler gets on the scoop for the first time. I say scoop, but this is a reverse scoop, over his left shoulder. Mere mortals would dislocate their wrists if they tried to play that shot.

"Eoin Morgan picked that up right off his nose, on the meat of the bat, and it sailed way over the longest stretch of the boundary."

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 123-3published at 15 overs

Looking again, Root completely lost his shape in that stroke. Like man ill at ease when attempting to heave across the line. He's too good for that nonsense. Eoin Morgan is the new man, immediately hooking a monster six! That's gone one tier up in the grandstand. That might be the biggest hit of the tournament so far. Massive.

"Joe Root wasn't quite sure himself where he was hitting that. He started trying to pull and then ending up levering it towards mid-off. He's not a natural slogger. When he tries to use brute force, by and large it doesn't work. His 48 is a good contribution, but England now have to finish this innings off."

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.2 overs

    Root c Taylor b Russell 48 (Eng 114-3)

Well bowled! Joe Root falls short of a half-century, deceived by an Andre Russell slower ball. Root thinks it's there to hit, but can only mistime a wide one to the hands of Jerome Taylor at mid-off. Very nice innings, though.

Sid Sidowski: Made redundant last week. 1 week left at work. Files reallocated. BBC text commentary on. Come on Root, 100 nailed on.

  18. Eng 114-2published at 14 overs

Six to go, England very handily placed. 165 a minimum from here, you'd say. 180 very gettable. Eoin Morgan, helmeted, waits, going through some looseners. I reckon England should tell David Willey to put his mums and dads on too.

Here comes Buttler. Down the pitch, down the ground, his first six. The Windies have been warned.
