Rob, Guildford: RE colour of the England kit: I was going to say 'tangerine' but from looking at the 'Shades of Orange', external Wikipedia page, I'd say it's more like 'atomic tangerine'. Possibly the worst superhero name ever?

The England kit debate rages on (pink, orange, peach?) as Sulieman Benn becomes the second spinner into the Windian attack. Tall for a spinner, the left-armer is round the wicket, causing trouble with the bounce he is finding. Very nice from Big Benn, only singles from the over.

"Eoin Morgan said he would have had a bowl first looking at the surface but I don't think it was that bad a toss to lose, for this reason: In the Super 10s, every match seems to count. You can't just doddle your way into the semi-finals. And the more tension there is, the more motivation there is to get a big score on the board first."

Maximum! England's first six of this World T20, Joe Root turning on a Russell bumper to hook over long leg. Dodgy dance music plays (not from DJ Bravo), while Andre Russell's dyed mohican makes it look like he's lost a fight with a tin of creosote.

I think we might need to ask the ECB for an official statement on this kit. If someone is reading, can you please get in touch. Dwayne Bravo into the attack, turned around the corner for three by Hales. Bravo, dealing almost exclusively in slower balls, loses his radar - plenty down the leg side. With his initials on the back of his shirt, DJ Bravo sounds like the sort of chap you'd see spinning the tunes in a dodgy club in Magaluf. On a Wednesday.

Graham Spiller: The England kit is "Shock Red." According to the ECB store the shock is that it's on the pink side of red...

  8. Eng 42-1 (Hales 15, Root 4)published at 5 overs

Joe Root is the new man, immediately tested with a bumper, then working one off his hips for four. At the end of the over, a woman's voice attempts to whip the crowd into an artificial frenzy. The cricket is doing that nicely, thanks.

"Jason Roy tried to whip the ball but got tucked up and it was a fairly straightforward catch. He's furious with himself - he absolutely smashed his right pad in frustration. It's a bit of an occupational hazard - sometimes his shots come off and sometimes they don't."

    Roy c Badree b Russell 15 (Eng 37-1)

Gone! West Indies call the mohican of Andre Russell into the attack and he removes Jason Roy. It was there to hit for Roy, who is so strong off his hips, but he only helps the ball to Samuel Badree at mid-wicket. England's juggernaut is halted.

A brilliant couple of overs from England - 31 runs off the past 12 balls.

Sunil Patel: Eng team has all sorts of players in this WT20. Which was missing for ages.

Harrison Webb: I'm actually quite confident in this England side...is that dangerous?

  14. Eng 35-0published at 3.4 overs

Three in a row! This time a cut shot. After a circumspect first couple of overs, England are flying.

  15. Eng 31-0published at 3.3 overs

Back-to-back from Hales, another sweep for four.

  16. Eng 27-0published at 3.2 overs

Hales is on the act now, sweeping a Badree full toss for his first boundary. The Windies are being very generous.

"After two overs (a tenth of the innings) without a boundary there was a bit of pressure but 18 off that over, not all of them off the bat, was just what England needed. Jason Roy is off and running, you just want to see Alex Hales get going too."

  18. Eng 23-0 (4-2-1wd-0-2-5wd-0-4)published at 3 overs

Big bonus for England, with an errant Taylor yorker flying down the leg side, too wide for keeper Denesh Ramdin to gather. Five to the score. Thanks very much. The men in pink (I'm going to keep calling it pink until someone tells me otherwise) are up and running, boosted further by a Roy drive through mid-wicket for four. 18 from the over!

Sitting in my office about 2400m up a mountain some 85km from Bukavu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Finish at 18:00 our time, 16:00 GMT. However, thick cloud cover has engulfed the mine, and every cloud has a silver lining, in this case it’s too dangerous to drive up the mountain on a dirt road with zero visibility in the dark, so if it holds it will be a 17:30 finish, hope we have some wickets left by then.

Roy is part of a new breed of tattooed cricketer, with ink drawn on both of his arms. How does that fit in with the MCC dresscode? Taylor is whipped through the leg side, then called wide for one that is too short. He looks a much better bowler when he pitches it up, allowing the ball to move. These conditions feel almost... English.
