More from Faf du Plessis: "It's not so much a party for us tonight. We will be looking at the other results. We didn't play at our best and when you're not at your best you can't expect to be going through to the semi-finals. West Indies have had three games in a row when they've outplayed the opposition. Hopefully a few results can go our way now and we can sneak in."

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis: "It was a good effort to get it so close towards the end, a great fight by the boys, but this game makes us all old very quickly. West Indies were just a bit better than us today. 

"The senior players needed to be there. Myself and Hashim [Amla] usually play a big anchor innings and let the others around us be aggressive, losing us both early was great for them. It was a little bit frantic in the first six overs, we didn't know what was a good score and so we pressed a bit hard, I think that's what cost us."

West Indies skipper Darren Sammy: "With two left-handers at the crease we backed Chris [Gayle] to do it, we started off really well and we have been getting wickets in the powerplay and putting pressure on the opposition. Today we were under pressure chasing a low total but the team responded. It was a tough win and tough wins don't really come often for us so we are really going to celebrate this."

West Indies skipper Darren Sammy: "I was smiling while I was watching but inside there were some butterflies. We came here to take one step to qualify and we have done that so we are really happy."

West Indies' Marlon Samuels is man of the match: "Sometimes you have to bat according to the situation, I had to go out there and build an innings with all my partners. And we knew once I was still there all we needed was one big over, whenever it came we would stay in front.

"If Gayle and Charles get a good start I go out there and play big shots like I did against England but I had to change my game.

"The pitch was a bit on the slow side, but we still have to give credit to South Africa, they bowled well. Our bowlers continue to do a good job and hopefully they can carry us through the tournament." 

England are in second place in Group 1 and their run rate is 0.02, but South Africa's has slipped to 0.43. England's final group match is against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Saturday and the South Africans also play Sri Lanka last, in Delhi on Monday.
