But Samuels is still there, a man with eight T20 fifties to his name, and he scythes Morris for two boundaries with thick edges down to third man.

"The pressure is building for the West Indies. With twelve deliveries left in this innings, South Africa will really feel they have chance."

  3. WI 103-6published at 18 overs

Carlos Brathwaite is only in his fifth T20 international and he has his highest score...one not out. He swishes at fresh air with several deliveries from Wiese and only three singles come from the over.

Tom Holmes: This is enthralling cricket, but Tahir is done and with Samuels at the crease, West Indies have to remain favourites.

  5. WI 100-6 (23 needed from 18 balls)published at 17 overs

No hat-trick as Brathwaite pushes it back to the bowler but Tahir has done a fine job and taken 2-13 from four overs. Super stuff.

"Animated celebrations, something we're used to with Tahir. Has he given South Africa a chance in this match? Sammy goes without scoring, Tahir will be on a hat-trick. Could this be the twist in the tale?"

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.5 overs

    Sammy b Tahir 0 (WI 100-6)

Gone first ball. Got him with the googly. Completely bamboozled, through the gate it goes, stumps everywhere, Tahir races away in celebration. Late drama. Not good for England by the way.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.4 overs

    Russell c Miller b Tahir 4 (WI 100-5)

Now they only had three balls from Tahir to get through but Russell could not resist the slog sweep and it went straight to Miller at deep mid-wicket, who barely had to move.

We have a delay as the ball is being replaced. And two pairs from the groundstaff are running across the outfield with ropes to break up the evening dew. Could be a new Olympic sport in a few years.

  10. WI 99-4 (24 needed from 24 balls)published at 16 overs

New man Andre Russell shatters the stumps with a straight drive and breaks his bat in the process, they don't make them to last these days and I can't imagine him back in the Caribbean assiduously applying the linseed oil before use. But Samuels keeps the scoreboard ticking with an emphatic thump over the head of bowler Morris, the fourth of his innings. Run-a-ball required.

    Former West Indies pace bowler

"You don't give up in situations like these. Remember India v Bangladesh from a couple of nights ago, when India were given an open goal. South Africa need to keep working away. Recent history suggests it's not over."

  12. WI 91-4 (32 needed from 30 balls)published at 15 overs

There are still Tahir's box of tricks, he is threatening but the Windies push singles and the leg-spinner only has one more over after this.

    Shaun Pollock
    Ex-South Africa captain

"That's exactly what South Africa needed to try and get themselves back in this game. It was an easy catch for Wiese, Bravo looking to carve it away."

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14 overs

    Bravo c Wiese b Phangiso 8 (WI 87-4)

The willowy Phangiso is getting some significant turn and he picks up the wicket of Bravo, who slices to backward point. If South Africa could have done the Phangiso again they could have been in business, but he has completed his four-over allocation, so they can't.

  15. WI 84-3published at 13 overs

Dwayne Bravo joins Samuels and Gayle in the 1,000 T20 international runs club. Samuels backs away to carve Rabada for back-to-back boundaries, the second rather streakier than the first, which went like an exocet. Seven fours for the Windies so far.

  16. WI 70-3 (53 needed from 48 balls)published at 12 overs

Just singles in the remainder of the over from the steady Wiese, ably supported by an alert ring of fielders.

"One of the easier catches Du Plessis will have taken. He rings the changes and it brings rewards."

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.1 overs

    Charles c Du Plessis b Wiese 32 (WI 66-3)

But this one has not been well timed at all and goes further up than anywhere else, safely pouched by skipper Du Plessis as he tumbles to the ground at cover.

  19. 6 runs

    WI 66-2published at 11 overs

This is a big ground but that is a massive hit, 101 metres from Charles over cow corner off Phangiso, well caught in the crowd around 15 rows back.
