Every ball is an event at the moment. South Africa look like they could lose another wicket at any moment. Chips just short of fielders, throws at the stumps, Dwayne Bravo pulling out more conjuring tricks that Dynamo. Appeal for caught behind off De Kock. Not given. Bat on ground? From the evidence of the tournament so far, I'd love to see a New Zealand v West indies final.

Teh: I don't know if I'm crying with laughter at Chris Gayle's (non) celebration or just crying at the mess SA are in.

Francis Edwards: This performance from SA just goes to prove how imbalanced the groups are, Windies are the only good side in this group.

  4. SA 50-5 (Gayle 2-0-10-2)published at 9 overs

What has happened to South Africa here? Twice in this tournament they've racked up 200, now they are making Chris Gayle look like Murali. David Wiese joins Quinton de Kock, who is pretty much playing a lone hand.

    Former India batsman

"He just played the line, the angle, and he has missed it by about eight inches as it gripped."

    Miller b Gayle 1 (SA 47-5)

Oh yes! Chris Gayle bowls David Miller, then pulls out an outstanding celebration. Still as a statue, hand to chin, fake pondering. The sort of thing Thierry Henry or Eric Cantona used to dabble in. It's awful from Miller, playing down Bakerloo - the wrong line. South Africa all over the show, Gangnam Style plays. Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

    Shaun Pollock
    Ex-South Africa captain

"Darren Sammy really has rung the changes with his bowlers and he feels it is an opportune time for Gayle against the two left-handers."

  8. SA 47-4published at 8 overs

I tell you what, Bravo's slower ball is so good it could just be called 'ball'. David Miller is the new man, fortunate not be bowled first up by an another slower ball. Bravo disguises them better than the Scarlet Pimpernel.

"We talk about the need to adjust to the conditions, recalibrate your mindset."

    De Villiers b Bravo 10 (SA 46-4)

Bowled him! Brilliant stuff from Dwayne Bravo befuddles AB de Villiers and strikes a huge blow for West Indies (and England). It's the most achingly canny slower ball, gripping, cutting, coming off miles after De Villiers is through his shot. The most dangerous (bats)man on the planet is gone and Nagpur is going bonkers.

  12. SA 44-3published at 7 overs

Suliemann Benn, the left-arm spinner built like a pacer/skyscraper is on, while what seems to be a crying baby is picked up on the microphones. Is Quinton de Kock struggling? He's certainly not running well. Five from the over. The Windies have got South Africa's you-know-whats in a vice.

  13. SA 39-3published at 6 overs

Carlos Brathwaite into the attack as the crowd continues to make the sort of noise that will keep Tim Peake awake. AB de Villiers signals that the pacer is getting some extra bounce, while more good fielding, this time from Andre Fletcher, stops a full toss being cut for four by De Kock.

  14. 6 runs

    SA 36-3published at 5 overs

Step and fetch it. No more flapping around from De Kock, down the wicket for a straight maximum. Still only eight from the set, though. Windies having much the better of the powerplay.

    Shaun Pollock
    Ex-South Africa captain

"It was always going to be difficult for the South Africans coming off a quality surface in Mumbai where they could hit through the line to one that is just holding a bit."

  16. SA 28-3published at 4.3 overs

Gayle is off, leggie Badree back on, De Kock swiping and flapping. Three dots.

  17. SA 28-3published at 4 overs

The Windies are even fielding well! Benn again in the game, diving full-length at mid-on to stop a De Kock drive. Are the crowd chanting his name? Or is it because ABDV is on strike? Outside of an India match, this is the best atmos of the tournament so far. Four for De Villiers! Down the ground. Cue a little bedlam.

    Ian Bishop
    Former West Indies pace bowler

"The West Indies really needed someone turning the ball away from the left-handers so that is why Gayle was brought on to bowl, even though he has not bowled recently."

  19. SA 22-3published at 3.3 overs

Who have this crowd come to see? De Villiers? Gayle? They might see Gayle bowl to ABDV in a moment. Looking again at that Rossouw shot, it was awful, a horrible swiping drive. It's Russell at the moment, pulled for a couple by De Kock.

John Michael Poole: Think it's safe to say South Africa wont be getting 200 today.
