    Rossouw c Russell b Gayle 0 (SA 20-3)

The Universe Boss has done it! It's awful from Rilee Rossouw, a waft outside off stump, a top edge, a simple catch to Andre Russell at point. Gayle, and presumably Eoin Morgan, dances with delight.

AB de Villiers is held back, in comes Rilee Rossouw. Hello, Chris Gayle is having a bowl....

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2 overs

    Du Plessis c Benn b Russell 9 (SA 13-2)

Faf du Plessis walks off shaking his head. Because of the shot or the decision? Third umpire Bruce Oxenford says he can find no evidence to overturn. It was just a loose bunt by Du Plessis, maybe outfoxed by an Andre Russell slower ball. Just the start the Windies (and England) wanted...

    SA 13-1

Whadda catch! Big Benn! Suliemann lumbers forward from mid-off, falls like a mighty oak and snaffles Du Plessis. The umpires think it's gone, but want another look. The crowd are roaring at the replay, they think it's good...

"Spectacular, controlled and majestic from Du Plessis, nothing was even wrong with the delivery."

    SA 10-1published at 1.4 overs

That man Russell, a blond mohican, shares the new ball, shaping it away from the grope of Du Plessis.  After faffing about for a couple of balls (pun intended), FDP has had enough, dancing to hit through the line and over cover for six. Wonderful, wonderful stroke. It's electric out there, it really is.

"How do South Africa look at this innings? They have scored 200 on a couple of occasions in the recent past and lost. Will they look for many more runs?"

  11. SA 4-1published at 1 over

Without being wise after the event, I thought it was a good move to start with Badree. De Kock likes pace on the ball. Was that a contributing factor? There didn't seem to be much of a call. They went, they stopped, they went again, but it was too late. Amla looked back pleadingly at De Kock. "What have you done to me?" Faf du Plessis is the new man.

Amla run out 1 (SA 1-1)

What has gone on there? South Africa have taken a single to Andre Russell, one of the gun fielders in the world, and Hashim Amla is shot of his ground. Why didn't he dive? Was there a mix-up? What a start for the Windies - listen to the roar.

  14. Third umpirepublished at 0.3 overs

    SA 1-0

Surely gone! Hashim Amla is walking back after three balls. He must be run out. He's not waiting....

Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock are in the middle. Leggie Samuel Badree has the ball. I've got a feeling this will be a good 'un.

West Indies have power hitters down to number eight and with the bowling it is just damage limitation, trying to restrict them to around 170.

South Africa have a right old cuddle as they leave the pitch after the anthems, with the Windies then having some man love of their own. The umpires are in the middle, wearing pinks shirts borrowed from Disco Stu.

Not too many players singing the Windies anthem. Disappointing, because Rally Round the West Indies is a belter.

Here come the players for the anthems, led out by match referee Chris Broad (dad of Stuart) in the sort of short-sleeved blue shirt you would associate with a Tuesday morning in an accountants' office.
