  1. 'Continue where we left off'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 21 May 2016

James Anderson on TMS: "We wanted to start off well here because Sri Lanka beat us last time. We wanted to continue what we did in South Africa.

"I wasn't myself in South Africa, but I ended the series well. It was nice to have a couple of months after that and I worked on somethings with Lancashire. I'm delighted to carry that on here this week.

"I missed a couple of games in South Africa so I didn't have much bowling. I've got a decent amount of overs in and I felt really good going into this game.

"This was a really good cricket wicket and some overhead conditions helped."

The man of the match has gone to Jonny Bairstow for his 140 and nine catches. Tough call between him and Jimmy Anderson but the decision has clearly gone down well with the locals.

Mark: Feel for Sri Lanka - always get the early season series in seaming conditions, about time they got to play us in July/August.

Michael Sayles: The Sri Lanka players have batted before this test, right?

"I never felt there was a problem with Anderson so long as he got match bowling. He's bowled 100 overs in the Championship. I always feel the older you get, the more overs you need, not less. He looks in great shape and there's still miles in his legs."

  5. 'We need to regroup'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 21 May 2016

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews: "I have a bit of worry about, to be honest. But we need to bounce back, regroup and talk about our strategies.

"Our batting is a bit inexperienced but we have to be fearless. They could have done better but this is a top-quality bowling attack. Against Anderson and Broad, coming in hard at you, you need to play skilful cricket.

"We can't make too many changes [for the second Test]. We need to come back and play another Test. We will make changes mentally."

James Anderson on Ben Stokes' knee injury: "Hopefully Ben will use these next couple of days wisely and be fit for Durham, because he's been crucial to our seam attack."

"It was men versus boys. England have four world-class players - Cook, Root, Broad and Anderson. I don't see that in the Sri Lanka side. The bowlers shined. In conditions favourable to them and the Sri Lanka batting isn't experienced. I don't care who it was - Greenidge and Haynes or Boycott and Gooch - they would have struggled in those conditions against quality bowlers."

  9. 'We were relentless with the ball'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 21 May 2016

England bowler James Anderson on Sky Sports: "It's been a good week for us. The knock from Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales were crucial - they deserve a lot of credit for the position we got in.

"I thought Sri Lanka played quite well in the second innings but we were relentless with the ball. It might look easy with the score but it has been hard work.

"The catching was very good, all in all. A couple of chances went down but that's going to happen."

Chris Watt: V annoyed. Had tickets tomorrow. Either opposition or conditions in Yorks in May aren't right if Test ends in 3 days.

"It's been overcast and when Anderson is on song there is no better bowler to exploit those conditions. He and Broad sensed their chance, rubbed their hands and picked up some cheap wickets."

"Pradeep was nowhere near it. It thudded into the middle stump. This match has been in the bag for some time. It's been a pretty clinical performance. Anderson has been supreme in conditions that he revels in."

Pradeep didn't just play down the wrong line of that Anderson ball. He was about 15 lines over. He was playing a delivery that someone has just delivered in Chapel Allerton.

To repeat, England win by an innings and 88 runs, within three days, and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The perfect finish. Jimmy Anderson clean bowls Nuwan Pradeep to claim his 10th wicket and seal England's win by an innings and 88 runs.

The England bowlers have done a real job on the tourists over the last two days. The last seven Sri Lanka wickets fell for just 26 runs.
