Do tell me of times when you've seen officials changed during cricket matches. Or even if you've done a Tucker and been unexpectedly thrust it to the action - it could be playing, officiating or scoring. This Sri Lankan last-wicket pair have decided to give it some humpty - Pradeep has plonked Woakes back over his head for a couple, then calling Lakmal through for a single that would have had him gone had Woakes' shy at the stumps hit.

Here comes Rod, running on to the pitch to warm applause. Replays show Broad just dragged his finger down that delivery to Chandimal, turning it into a little leg-cutter. We then see pictures of Broad explaining it to Steven Finn, who looked thoroughly confused. Nuwan Pradeep is the last hen out of the house.

Now then, I've never seen this before. Umpire Aleem Dar isn't feeling well and has left the field. His place will be taken by third umpire (and star of DRS reviews) Rod Tucker, with fourth umpire David Millns promoted to the third seat. You see this in football quite often, but I can't remember it happening in a Test.

    Chandimal b Broad 126 (SL 453-9)

Oh, Dinesh. After all that hard work, that's an ugly way to fall. I can see what Chandimal was trying to do, looking to hit down the ground with the field up, but he's completely missed a straight one from Stuart Broad and had his off bail clipped. A fantastic knock, mind, one that has kept this contest alive until now.

"Only two teams in Test history have followed on more behind and managed to make the opposition bat again."

It's an odd sight, seeing what is supposed to be the pinnacle of a sport being played out in front of seats that are 90% empty. I'd have wanted to be in C-l-S for Suranga Lakmal's hook shot alone. He takes Woakes for four, with the bowler staring back in disbelief.

"They've got to take every run. Lakmal's going to have to face a number of balls if the partnership develops."

  11. SL 446-8published at 14:32

Lakmal is surrounded by catchers. Three slips, gully and a short leg. More company than a man handing out free beer. He has a shuffly technique and is brave enough to get in behind a well-directed Anderson bumper. He even wants the single that would see him keep the strike. Chandimal, the killjoy, declines.

"The pitch has been flat. England didn't get their tactics quite right for Herath. I didn't think that they changed thing to make things more difficult for him. If England want to be the best, the areas of concern are still the same. Spin needs to be improved and they drop too many balls for the fielding unit that they have."

Chris Woakes, wearing what can only be described as a sports bra underneath his white shirt, waits at the end of his run with his hands on his hips. Lakmal, just about getting in line, fences, pushing the ball past the dive of James Vince at third slip. Chandinal can't pinch the strike, meaning Lakmal has to deal with Anderson.

    SL 442-8

That's a Michelle Pfeiffer for James Anderson too, his third in four innings in this series. Looking again, the ball pitched on off stump, then straightened to hold its line and take the top of the timber. Suranga Lakmal the new man.

    Eranga b Anderson 1 (SL 442-7)

Bowled him! An absolute rozzer from James Anderson to destroy the off pole of Shaminda Eranga. That nut would be too good for many a top-order player, never mind Sri Lanka's number nine. Angle in, late nip away, furniture removed.

Jack: Bank holiday and the turnout at this match has been poor, don't think there will be another Test match there for a while!

  19. SL 442-7 (lead by 45)published at 14:18

Chandimal, buoyed by the magic of Herath, has enough faith in Eranga to take the single from only the second ball of the over. Eranga, warming to his task, is able to take one his own. If I'm honest, I'm hoping that Eranga can dog this out for a while. Today has perhaps been the most entertaining of the series so far.

"150 would make England twitchy. If it's turning, there's always a little sniff if your spinner hits a bit of form or you get a bit of luck. It's a pretty lifeless, dead pitch now."
