"That first hour felt like it could have been a 320-3 sort of a day. Sri Lanka have had some bad luck with injuries, but they have stuck to it."

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"Sri Lanka will be happy. They bowled slightly defensively but they got the rewards. They caused England trouble and they are still in the game, which is what they would have wanted. But Jonny Bairstow again rode to the rescue. Another wonderful, wonderful innings."
Even with Bairstow's knock, it still feels like the honours are no more than even. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka would have bitten your hand off for six wickets. They will still fancy wrapping England up for under 350 tomorrow, which would have them right in this match.

Michael Morrow: Jonny Bairstow is the next Joe Root.
Rachel T: Take a bow Jonny Bairstow. Ginger Ninja and King of Lord's!
Sam Rosser: Jonny B very very good.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"Another knock from Bairstow that just looked on the cards. How Sri Lanka will be kicking themselves for that drop when he was on 11. Ever since that he has just gone on his merry way. He can't stop scoring runs."
Bairstow removes his helmet to reveal some perfectly pruned ginger stubble. He raises his bat to all corners, with the England balcony full of adulation. Remember, he arrived with England 84-4.
Eng 279-6
That's yer lot. England close on 279-6, which is probably no more than satisfactory given they won the toss on the most batty of batting days. Indeed, if Jonny Bairstow had not been dropped on 11, it could have been very different. As it is, the England keeper will sleep on a ton and look to push on in the morning.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
"Jonny Bairstow's hundred came in 232 minutes off 160 balls and contained 13 fours.
"He is only the second England keeper to score three tons in the same calendar year, after Matt Prior in 2011."
Nice touch from Herath, who shook hands with Bairstow as he celebrated. Remember, though, Sri Lanka have dropped Bairstow, could have run him out and seen the tightest of lbw calls turned down. Still, he remains with three figures to his name and is ready to face the final over of the day.

"Many haven't done it her eat Lord's. He will be absolutely delighted. Well done, Jonny Bairstow. Full house at Lord's - what a great feeling."
Eng 272-6
There it is! Jonny Bairstow is cheering almost before he has tickled Rangana Herath to square leg. He removes his helmet, looks to the sky and soaks up the acclaim. That's a maiden first-class ton at HQ for Bairstow, who is not only in the form of his life, but anyone's life. Remember, no one in the world has scored more first-class runs than Jonny B is the past 12 months.

Richard Mellor: Imagine how good England would be at cricket with a decent #2, #3 and #5?! The mind boggles, a bit unhappily.
Nearly, oh so nearly. Short and wide from Suranga Lakmal, a cut shot. If that goes five yards either way, it's four. Instead, it's straight to the sweeper. 98. Murmur goes round the ground as Bairstow waits for the final ball of the over, turning to a huge cheer as he hooks. That's straight to long leg, though. He keeps the strike on 99. The crowd, the balcony, the home of cricket waits...

Phil Dodsworth: Jonny Bairstow has scored more first-class runs than any other player in the world over the last 12 months #yorkslegend, external.
Good running. Inside-edge on to pad from Bairstow, ball doesn't leave the square but he's still back for two. 97.

Francis Edwards: It has been made very obvious for so many Tests now that England's lower order is better than most of the top order.
What comes first, the ton or the close? I'd be prepared to stick my neck to say that Bairstow will not sleep in the 90s. A nudge into the leg side, strike kept in the lengthening shadows. Five required.

"Lovely shot by Bairstow because there is a man waiting on the boundary. He just waited and hit it past gully's left hand."
Now then. It felt like the crowd were dozing towards the close, but Bairstow has prodded them hard. A back cut off Pradeep goes behind point for four. Six away from a century...

Brookhouse CC: We were once "distracted" during a game by Top Gear rolling their 3 wheeler Robin Reliant across our square!
