Game on here. Hitter Perera against the tempting offies of Moeen Ali, all with lunch and the new ball looming. Perera, like a slimmer turning down the dessert cart, isn't getting stuck in. Yet.

"Finn's Test match record at Lord's is excellent: in six matches, he's taken 31 wickets at 20.61."
Yep, for as dead as Chandimal looked to the naked eye, it was umpire's call for impact on the leg stump. If the decision was not out, it wouldn't have been overturned. Oddly, as England celebrated, Finn asked umpire Ravi how close it was to being a no-ball. Keep those sort of questions to yourself, Steven. Kusal Perera is the new man, instantly showing his intent to attack.

"The irony of it is that Bairstow survived a similar one. The percentage of the ball hitting the stumps is the same. That is the problem with DRS."
Chandimal lbw Finn 19 (SL 202-5)
Big wicket for England, just before lunch and the second new ball. Like Kusal Mendis earlier today, Dinesh Chandimal has played across a full, straight one, his front pad stopping the ball from crashing into leg stump. Steven Finn has done the job for England, who are one more wicket from getting into the tail.

"He's referred it, but I don't think he thinks he's hit it..."

Dinesh Chandimal, this will be a waste of a review. You're out here, my friend...

James Hoste: At a wedding all day from 3pm. Happily it's at St John's Wood Church, so relying on the Lord's crowd for wicket notification!
Spin for the first time today, Sri Lanka winning their morning battle against James Anderson. Moeen Ali is round the wicket to the left-handed Thirimanne, serving up a pretty rank long hop that the Lankan number four cuts to the boundary. There are 10 overs until the new ball is due, so expect the shiny cherry just after lunch.

Never, never, never put ketchup on bacon. It's vinegar and black pepper. Ketchup for sausages and brown sauce for eggs.

There's just the odd sign of the ball starting to keep low. This one from Finn doesn't bounce as much as Chandimal expects, with the England pacer asking for leg before. Not out, he's got outside the line.

"Chandimal looks well organised and strong in the mind. He can play."
James Anderson is kicking at the footholes, looking quite disgruntled with where he is landing at the Nursery End. Lord's, eh? Just not good enough, is it Jim? The sting has been slightly withdrawn from the England charge, Chandimal and Thirimanne withstanding what Anderson and Finn have to offer. Just under half an hour to go before lunch.

Surely everyone knows the rules (we do in Yorkshire): ketchup for egg, chips, baked beans and mushy peas (mint sauce allowable here); brown sauce for bacon butties, sausages of any sort and Barnsley chops! 'Nuff said.

Thirimanne finally breaks those shackles, reaching out to flay a Finn half-volley through the covers for four. As that happens, Ben Stokes walks around the boundary with a member of the England backroom staff. I wonder how this England team will look when he returns. In for Finn or Woakes? And when is Mark Wood going to be fit?

"If England keep Thirimanne under pressure, he could do something silly. He's been there a while for his seven."

"Jimmy Anderson's average for the series has crept into double figures. At the start of this innings it was 7.72."

Chance! Not at all easy, but the edge from Dinesh Chandimal has definitely carried to Joe Root at second slip. Low down, very close to the ground, Root diving to his right and getting a finger to the ball just before it hits the turf. It would have been an absolute screamer, but still a sniff. The reaction of the bowler, James Anderson, tells you how difficult it was. Not much from Jimmy, who is usually murderous when a fielder lets him down.

"That's 2,000 Test runs for Dinesh Chandimal - he's only the 15th Sri Lankan to get there."
Steven Finn into the action for the first time today, loosening his shoulders as Lord's buzzes with pre-lunch anticipation. Down the slope, running away from the pavilion, where one chap peers through binoculars. Straight, but no great venom, Chandimal working off his hip for a single.
