Ooh I say, what a good shot that is from Perera. He picks up a length ball from Anderson and short-arm jabs it over square leg for a one-bounce four. What a pick-up. Eranga has to face one ball and survives it, largely by not being good enough to get anywhere an absolute peach from Anderson.

Eranga does little to inspire confidence by playing and missing at his first two deliveries.

"That was just a little bit too close to play that stroke - it came down the slope. Third man is Herath's favoured area but on this occasion he chose the wrong ball. You could tell by the celebrations that England were frustrated."

Herath tries to cut a ball that's too close to his body and hears the death rattle. Inside edge, off pole disturbed. A pesky, pugnacious innings is brought to an end, but Herath has done a fine job for his team. England into the rabbits now...

  8. SL 276-6 (Perera 32, Herath 31)published at 14:47 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

More annoyance runs for Sri Lanka, four leg byes when Perera attempts to flick Jimmy Anderson and the ball glances off his thigh pad. Frustration rising for England...

Herath providing some serious irritant value here, like chilli powder in your jockstrap. He wafts at a Stuart Broad delivery and pings it over the top of the slips for four. He then picks up another four by getting the tiniest contact on a swivel pull. In between, he was hit in front, but the ball was sliding down leg. Time for drinkies.

This seventh-wicket pair are doing a sterling job for Sri Lanka. Let's not forget they came together at 205-6, so the stand is worth 59. Anderson hammering that off-stump-or-just-outside line, Perera stout in defence. Maiden over.

The TV cameras pick out Messrs Morgan (Eoin, not Piers) and McCullum in the crowd, both with heads bowed and casting solemn downward glances. Either engrossed in Fruit Ninja on their phones, or both locked in prayer. Herath is making a strong bid to be upgraded to the 'no mug' category - he times Broad beautifully through the covers, then whip-hooks him off the front foot for a second boundary. Woof.

Herath can't certainly throw the willow around - a lovely slashing cut off Anderson pings off the face off the bat and zips to the point boundary, bringing up the 50 partnership. A frustrating little stand for England, a valuable one for Sri Lanka.

Regarding the current ketchup/brown sauce debate on the live text, here’s some real controversy. I like both. Together. On bacon and sausage in a lovely soft bun. Delicious.  Not many people agree with me, but that’s because they’ve never tried it.

Perera likes that baseball-style bludgeon down the ground - this time it's Broad who gets the treatment. No foot movement, just stand and deliver, as Adam Ant would say. He then back-foot punches nicely into the off side and picks up a couple more.
