England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports: "The form of Jonny Bairstow with the bat has been phenomenal. He's really come of age and looks like he belongs here.

"After the South Africa series people were calling for Alex Hales' head. He showed that he can play and it's unfortunate he couldn't get to a hundred.

"We'll discuss Nick Compton. It's always difficult when a player is struggling. He's a hard worker and he'll give himself every chance to score runs.

"Steven Finn looked out of rhythm in the first two Test, but looked better the longer he bowled in this Test. He's still not quite there, but we know how devastating he can be.

"Jos Buttler is the white-ball keeper. Jonny deserves his opportunity with the bat and will get his chance."

England play Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series starting with a day-nighter at Trent Bridge on 21 June, after the tourists face Ireland in ODIs in Dublin on 16 and 18 June.

More from England captain Alastair Cook: "I'm sure Broad and Anderson want to be in the ODI squad, but they will be fresh for Pakistan.

"Alex Hales has come in and done really well, I've been really impressed how he has worked out his game.

"There's other areas for improvement. We do bat deep, but the top order could contribute a few more hundreds."

England captain Alastair Cook: "It would have been a really good day's cricket. It would have been good to see our guys under some pressure.

"We won one game by an innings and the other by nine wickets. There's always room for improvement. We've won one trophy and there's one more to go against Pakistan.

"I thought they might need some power hitting in the ODIs, so I put myself down the order to show the guys how it's done.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews: "I thought we started off pretty poorly in the first couple of games. We came into the series in our second innings in Durham. It would have been an interesting chase today but the weather interrupted. We wanted to go for it. 

"We tried our best and trained really hard in these conditions. There are lots of positives even though we lost the series, all the bowlers bowled well and Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal batted well. 

"Now we've had a good month or so in England so hopefully we can come back and beat England [in the ODI series]."

Sri Lanka man of the series Kaushal Silva: "England have a quality fast-bowling line-up and from the second innings of the Durham Test I was trying to be positive. It paid off for me.

"In Headingley it was seaming a lot and showed uneven bounce at times. The wickets at Durham and here were good to bat on.

"It was challenging, but I enjoyed it. I've missed out on a hundred at Lord's three times, hopefully I'll get another chance next time."

Man of the match and England man of the series Jonny Bairstow: "To be back in England and hit the ground running was the main aim. I wanted to back up the form I've shown for Yorkshire.

"I wouldn't say it's been a conscious decision to stand up straight, it's something that's developed. It's never nice to get dropped, but that really spurred me on.

"I felt like I had a few people to prove wrong. This series and in South Africa I think I've done that.

"It's a pleasure to keep to Broad and Anderson. I was pleased, but disappointed to drop a couple. The hard work continues and we move on to the rest of the summer.

"I'm delighted to be back in the limited-overs squads. I feel like I'm striking the ball well."
