The umpires have a conflab, Alastair Cook tells Moeen Ali that he's bowling, a lightmeter is run out to the middle.
At best that's a waste of a review. At worst is an abuse of the system. Even if it doesn't rain, I wonder how long the umpires will trust the light.

"This might be a Stuart Broad classic. From here, it looked like the body and nobody seemed terribly interested."

This looks like a very optimistic review from England. Mendis has ducked a bumper, probably taking it on the shoulder....
Broad had that tough caught-and-bowled chance off Mendis a couple of overs ago and here has the little right-hander in all sorts of trouble with a bumper. Trying to get out of the way, Mendis somehow top-edges over the keeper for four. Is it brightening up? Am I just being optimistic?

Umpire Rod Tucker looks twitchy from his position at square leg, gesturing as Anderson begins a new over. It's an odd light, the sort where you think the floodlights have overtaken the natural stuff. James Vince throws at the stumps from point, but I think Kusal Mendis was well home. Just a touch flat out there.

"Alastair Cook looks very similar to a quizmaster that Andrew's got on the telly at the moment."
Tufnell: "That's Vernon Kay!"
"It looks like Alastair Cook to me."
This is brilliant. Dasun Shanaka, the all-rounder who played in the first Test, joined in with the fans during the rain delay. The groundstaff remain poised by the covers as Broad charges in and, given the dirtiness of the cloud over the pavilion, I can see why. If that cracks, we're all doomed.
Yep, Anderson has got it hooping now, this way and that to Karunaratne, who is desperately trying to remember where his off stump is. In the crowd, one couple sit huddled, thoroughly miserable, while another lady looks delighted to be holding a glass of fizz. Sri Lanka navigating this quite well at the moment.

"Sri Lanka haven't drawn a Test match since July 2014 against South Africa at the SSC in Colombo. They've played 16 Test matches without a draw since then."

Hello! Is Kusal Mendis thinking about winning this one? A huge drive back at Broad, with the big fast bowler falling like a mighty oak in an attempt to hold it. He gets a hand to it, but can't hold on. It would have been the catch of the century. A quarter of a chance and nothing more.

"I think the one-dayers might be a much better contest. Most of the Sri Lanka side have been playing ODI cricket long enough. However, the way England played in the World T20 was outstanding."
England haven't packed the slips for left-hander Karunaratne, only two of them and a gully. Anderson has instead got men on the leg side, but is off-target with his inswinger. England haven't come out with the same venom as this morning. Still, Anderson as the question against Mendis, but that's sliding down the leg side.

Dark clouds? Really? Surely more rain would be terminal. Stuart Broad at the other end, England packing the slip cordon but eschewing the temptation to post a short leg. Broad seems to have more facial hair than this morning, while a lady in the stands is doing some knitting. Hint of swing, but no threat.

"The dark clouds do seem to be coming over. It can see a build-up right above us."
Lord's echoes in its emptiness as Mendis gets in behind a lifter. Two balls down, lots and lots to go for the Lankans.

"The mind can switch off if you haven't played for most of the day."
