Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
"James Anderson finishes with a bowling average of 10.8, the best for an England bowler taking at least 20 wickets since Derek Underwood against New Zealand in 1969."
So, all in all a very good series for England - convincing wins in the first two Tests, followed by this rather frustrating, soggy end. As for Sri Lanka, well they grew better as the series went on, but they were outclassed by the likes of Anderson and Broad in English conditions, and on this evidence, they've got a long way to go yet before they shake off that 'transition' tag.
Boys, I'm afraid your prayers were not answered. The match has been abandoned as a draw, meaning that England win the series 2-0.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"Nick Compton has played 16 Tests, winning four series and drawing one. In the 80s and 90s, England players needed about a hundred caps for that sort of success."
If Blowers's pessimistic prognostication is right, this could be the final ball of the series. Not a bad one to bow out on...
Henry Blofeld
BBC Test Match Special
"It's still raining quite lightly but it is brighter. This match is running into the buffers. You wonder if there's any point taking the covers off."
Let's pretend, shall we, that you haven't all turned over to the Ireland v Sweden live text and are instead sticking with us in the hope of more play.
Well, I'll be honest, it's not looking entirely hopeful. But we'll keep you posted until we hear anything definitive.
Stephan, thank you. He's right you know, it is my final day at the BBC. I'm sad to be leaving, but excited to get started at Nasa.
That might be the end of the series, it might not. Either way, here's James Gheerbrant. This is his final day with the BBC, you know, so enjoy him while you've got him...

Richard Kirk: Legged it to Lord's from work, saw one Joe Root ball, they walked off for rain. Love cricket.

"It seems to me that from quite a low base, Sri Lanka have got better throughout the series. My impression is that their top three are learning fast."
The sky is actually reasonably bright, but there's no denying the wet stuff falling from the sky. If that is curtains, would it be the first time that the final ball of a drawn Test has been hit for six?
Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"It actually could have been quite an intriguing last day if we hadn't had any interruptions."
SL 78-1
The rain has returned, perhaps putting an end to this series. The players trudge off, the covers come on. I'd be surprised if we see any more play today.
It is Root, greeted by a slog sweep from Mendis, all the way for...six! Is that it?
It's just struck me that if (and it's a big if) the light improves and the rain holds, we'll be here for a very long time. No sign of turn for Mo, against the slope. Expect Joe Root from the other end.
