"Only Alex Hales would do this. He hasn't faced a single ball yet he's changing his bat already. Only Alex Hales would bring out the wrong bat in an ODI."

Only one slip, shadows long as we wait for dusk - might be some time, we're only day removed from the longest day. Having said that, the floodlights are already on. Totally unnecessary. Tight line from the wiry Lakmal, Roy's straight bat away with a single.

Lovely evening sunshine greets England openers Alex Hales and Jason Roy. Hales still has a bit of blue tape holding his helmet together - can we not sort him a new one? Roy marking his guard, Suranga Lakmal pacing through his run-up with his mullet bobbing behind.

Thanks, Dawkesy. Music fills the air at TB as we wait for the players to return. 287 for England to win this first ODI, should be very gettable on a good deck with a small boundary.

Last week Zimbabwe’s cricket fans turned their backs on the beleaguered cricket team as they suffered a 3-0 ODI thrashing by India’s second string in three one-sided matches. That followed their abject showing in the World T20, when they were beaten to the Super 10 phase by Afghanistan.

In a special report from Harare for BBC Stumped, Steve Vickers looks at what’s gone wrong….

In case you missed it earlier, Heather Knight marked her first game as England women's captain with 5-26 and an unbeaten 50 to seal a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the opening match of the one-day series.

Chasing 166, England won with 18.1 overs thanks to Tammy Beaumont's 70 and a third-wicket stand of 96 with Knight.

Knight is the first player to take five wickets and make a fifty in a women's ODI.

New Road hosts the second game of the three-match series on Wednesday.

"If you pick guys for their bowling, and they happen to be good players like Plunkett that's great. But you rely on your top seven to win games."

"That is a very small hit to that short boundary. It's difficult to defend. I wonder if they knew it would be quite that short when they pressed the button for the redevelopment."

  18. England require 287 to winpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 21 June 2016

So England will be chasing 287. I reckon they would have taken that before the start of play. This is a good track on a Trent Bridge pitch that has seen scores of 445, 425 and 415 racked up in recent weeks.

"I do think England will get this total. Trent Bridge has been a very good place for England in one-day international cricket in recent years. Eoin Morgan loves batting here, Joe Root loves it. Sri Lanka are about 30, 40 runs short here."

Lakmal run out 7 (SL 286-9)

The innings ends with a run out as Maharoof hits down to David Willey at long-on and makes it clear that he is always running two. This leaves poor Suranga Lakmal well short of making his ground at the non-striker's end.

Chris Woakes ends with another good over and ends with figures of 10-0-56-2 (identical to Willey).
