"New England women's captain Heather Knight has had the dream captaincy debut as the hosts secure a resounding seven-wicket victory over Pakistan at Grace Road.

"The 25-year-old becomes the first player to take a five-wicket haul and score a fifty in a women's ODI, finishing unbeaten on 50.

"Chasing 166 to win, England cruised home with 18.1 overs remaining, to warm applause from the crowd."

Dusan Shanaka joins Mathews and gets off the mark with a turn to leg off Plunkett for a single. Someone needs to stick around with Mathews now.

  4. SL 197-6published at 34.4 overs

While we wait for the next man to come out, here is how Woakes dismissed dangerman Prasanna...

"It was there to be hit. It was wide and full and he didn't get that front foot over. It's only inside that white indication line by a centimetre or two. He just didn't get over it. You've got to play your strokes, but when you first go in you sometimes play a flashing blade like that."

    Tharanga c Buttler b Plunkett 3 (SL 197-6)

Another goes! Plunkett has been taking some stick but he gets some revenge with a wide ball that Tharanga throws everything he has at but succeeds only in edging behind to Jos Buttler. All the weight on Mathews now.

  7. SL 191-5 (Tharanga 2, Mathews 40)published at 34 overs

The poor WASP doesn't know what to do. It is buzzing around desperately trying to settle on a prediction. At one stage, with Prasanna at the crease, Sri Lanka were looking in excess of 300. Now we are down back at 290. Upul Tharanga joins Mathews at the crease but Woakes keeps the pair in check.

"It was a tame dismissal. Not much more than a long hop. Prasanna mistimed the pull and it's the gentlest of return catches. But he's entertained us all. Well played Prasanna, thanks for that."

  9. wicket

    Prasanna c&b Woakes 59 (SL 188-5)

Boy did England need this! It is quite a tame dismissal in the end, considering the huge hits Prasanna has produced so far. He looks to club Woakes away, but it is on top him too quickly and can only mistime the ball straight back to the bowler. What a cameo, though.

  11. SL 188-4published at 33 overs

Plunkett doesn't know where to bowl it. Prasanna finds the rope no matter where it lands. This includes a full one that he hammers wide of mid-off. His 50 came up off 24 balls - the second fastest ODI half-century by a Sri Lankan against England. Awesome effort.

"You wonder why he's not got a fifty more often. He hits a clean shot and he's a no nonsense chap."

  13. 50 runs

50 for Prasannapublished at 32.2 overs

    SL 179-4

Prasanna is messing with some England minds here. Plunkett fires in a beamer, which Prasanna clubs away for four. He reaches his 50 with another boundary.

He got his innings under way with a bit of help from England, which you can watch below...

  14. SL 169-4 (Mathews 38, Prasanna 42)published at 32 overs

Prasanna is doing a superb job for his side. He plants Moeen into the stand with a big blow to midwicket and then clubs another even further back into the same stand. A sweep then brings him four. He is here for a good time, not a long time.

"You're playing with fire. Even had Alex Hales managed to grab that it would have hit the ropes there."

  16. SL 152-4published at 31 overs

Plunkett is back into the attack and it helps Sri Lanka. He opts to dig a couple in short at Prasanna. The first he ducks, the second he top-edges for six. The batsman ends the over with another six, whipped over midwicket and just over Alex Hales. Prasanna has 26 now, 24 of which have come in boundaries.

  18. SL 139-4published at 30 overs

The usual theory is to at least double your score in the last 20. England are bowling very well, though. Moeen spins his way through another economical over.

This is the Moeen wicket that brought Prasanna to the crease...

  19. SL 138-4 (Mathews 35, Prasanna 14)published at 29 overs

Prasanna is not here to mess about. He gets another four with a filthy big slog but then is almost dismissed with another dirty wipe from the spinner. Rashid has bowled out, and bowled out well. 10-0-36-0 for the Yorkshireman. No wickets but a very neat and tidy job.

  20. England women v Pakistan updatepublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 21 June 2016

    Kalika Mehta
    BBC Sport at Grace Road

"England are cruising towards victory, having reached 124-2 at the halfway stage, chasing 166 to win the first ODI.

"The only remaining question to be answered is whether Tammy Beaumont, currently 70 not out, will reach three figures or Heather Knight, who is unbeaten on 36, will reach her half-century. The battle is on."
