"Good pace again from Plunkett. It was at the body, it took the splice of the bat and ballooned to short fine leg. I like it when quick bowlers bowl quick. I get grumpy when the bowlers experiment with slower balls before the batsman has proved he can handle the quick stuff."

That is definitely out. Plunkett digs one in short, which Perera swivels to pull but plants straight into the hands of debutant Tymal Mills.

  3. wicket

    SL 17-0published at 2.5 overs

Change of bowling already as Liam Plunkett comes into the attack. Perera wipes at a short ball and has to scurry to get back for two runs ahead of the throw from the deep. England are on the ball in the field. Eoin Morgan's throw is really close to running out the man at the non-striker's end. In fact, he might not have his bat down. I think that's out. Or it would be if someone had appealed.

Lorcan Moore: Tymal Mills has gas.

Theo Bowyer: Even Boycott would have to call Mills fast... Every ball around the 90mph mark!

Tymal Mills starts his international career with a 93mph delivery. Rapid. He is a big lad and he makes it count. He almost gets himself a wicket in his first over as Perera steers a short ball just wide of the diving man at gully. He also concedes his first boundary as Perera latches on to a wide ball to loft a shot to the rope on the off side.

"They haven't got any more than five bowling options. Willey has a shin problem and the only other person in the squad who could have bowled was Malan, who bowls a bit of leg-spin. Morgan often likes to use only five, and that's what he'll have to do tonight."

  8. SL 3-0published at 1 over

Great start for England. Chris Jordan, gold chain bouncing round his neck, varies his length and pace to keep the Sri Lankan opening pair to just three (one of those a wide).

Here come the England lads. Looks like Chris Jordan is going to start with the ball at the Pavilion End. The Sri Lanka openers are Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka.

"We know it's a good wicket because we saw the women's game earlier on. The man who all eyes will be on will be Tymal Mills. He has genuine, consistent, pace, but also variety. It's very exciting."

So, what is the T20 form of each side, heading into this fixture? Well, England have lost one of the past five games (that final against West Indies), while Sri Lanka have won only one of the past five.

2014 World T20 winners Sri Lanka lost both of their warm-up games for the World T20, and only beat Afghanistan in their four matches in the actual tournament (one of their defeats was to a Jos Buttler-inspired England).

This game will round off what has been a pretty torrid tour for what is, in truth, very much a team in transition. After Test and ODI series losses, they will see this evening as a no-lose situation and the chance to sign off on a positive note.

I don't want to tempt fate, but the Ageas Bowl - the venue for tonight's game - is no stranger to big hitting and large scores. It is currently the fastest-scoring ground in England in T20 Internationals, with an average of 9.07-per-over in the three games played here.

It is also the place where Aaron Finch scored his world-record 156 for Australia (in just 63 balls) against England in 2013.

England were beaten here by Sri Lanka in 2006, with the home side falling two runs short of chasing the tourists' 163. That England team included the likes of Marcus Trescothick (who scored 77), Jamie Dalrymple, Ed Joyce and Saj Mahmood.

We are also going to be treated to the international debut of Hampshire spinning all-rounder Liam Dawson this evening.

Dawson, 26, was in England's World T20 squad, but was not required during the tournament. However, the former national U-19 captain's time has come after a season that has seen him average 21.28 with the bat (strike-rate 122.13) and 24.42 with the ball (along with an economy of 7.12) in the T20 Blast.

  19. Tymal to shine?published at 18:08 British Summer Time 5 July 2016

There will be no Alex Hales, Joe Root or Moeen Ali on show for England tonight. They've all been rested. David Willey has a slight injury.

However, we will get a first international bow from the enigma that is Tymal Mills. If you not yet aware of Mills, let me sum him up - he has a lightning left arm but unfortunately a back of glass. Capable of speeds in excess of 90mph, the 23-year-old was diagnosed with a congenital back condition in 2015 which means bowling fast can agitate his spinal cord and prevent much involvement in long-form cricket.

However, he has performed well in the T20 Blast for Sussex, bowling quickly, with the occasional expertly delivered slower ball. He also took out Chris Gayle with a 93mph yorker when Sussex met Somerset. Definitely one for the highlight reel.

England celebrate their ODI series winImage source, Getty Images

England come into this single T20 game with Sri Lanka off the back of another impressive one-day series, which saw them largely dominate Angelo Mathews men to claim a 3-0 victory.

During the five games (one of which was lost to the rain), they clubbed and clattered Sri Lanka's bowlers all over the shop and did a pretty thorough job of ripping through the tourists batsmen.

Many of the Englishmen from that series will take to the field again tonight, although there will be a few notable exceptions...
