Dave: Woakes' rapid improvement due 2 the reprogramming of that box on his uppr back- 1st in a line of robotic cricketers from the ECB.

Terry Mahoney: Funnily enough, unlike yesterday there are no posts today that question Barstow's wicket keeping duties. Did something happen?

One batsman with a big part to play and in the rest of the series for England is Joe Root. He made a very good 48 in the first innings then committed suicide. It was a waste and it opened the floodgates after that.

So Broad needed only seven balls this morning, taking two in two (before you ask, he's not on a hat-trick the next time he bowls). He and Woakes have shared 17 in the match. England's openers have scurried off to pad up. The home side will have complete their highest chase at Lord's if they are to win this match.

It's nice they mopped them up early. The first part of it is done. Now get into your method of batting. They have to try and get through the new ball, but for me it's all about how you play Yasir Shah.

    Amir c Bairstow b Broad 1 (Pak 215)

That will do nicely for England. Stuart Broad needs only one more delivery to remove Mohammad Amir, a flash outside off stump is nicked through to Jonny Bairstow. Pakistan added only one run to their overnight score and are 215 all out. England will need 283 to win. Game on.

Keir McCumiskey: Big day for James Vince. Done nothing for England so far and with Stokes coming back, he needs an innings to cement his place.

Chris Woakes, now merely hunting a 12-wicket haul, shares morning duties at a Lord's that is showing a few empty seats. Amir clips the first run of the day off his toes, exposing Rahat. With all the footwork of a wardrobe, Rahat is hit on the thigh pad, drawing a muted appeal.

It was a very good catch by Jonny Bairstow. It seemed to be very close. He jumped up and threw a hand to it. It really did just stick.

Stuart Broad's 350 Test wickets for England. He's the third youngest bowler and the youngest seamer to get to that mark at 30 years and 23 days old. The previous youngest was Waqar Younis.

  10. Pak 214-9 (Broad 19-7-38-2)published at 11:04

Bairstow took some pelters last night when he dropped Sarfraz, so it's right he gets praise for such an athletic take this morning. It was a good bouncer from Broad, quick, aggressive, well-directed. Rahat Ali is the last amn.

My word England wanted that. It was a good catch by Bairstow. That was a quick ball and it surprised Yasir. He started to go for a hook and it flicked the edge.

    Yasir c Bairstow b Broad 30 (Pak 214-9)

That's what England wanted! Stuart Broad strikes in the very first over of the day, helped by a very smart catch from Jonny Bairstow. A short ball that Yasir Shah looks to hook, taking a glove and flying high towards Bairstow, who leaps, thrusts his right mitt into the air and snaffles the chance.

It's easy to say Moeen isn't the spinner to do it. Moeen is a batsman that can bowl spin. It's only since the retirement of Swann that we saw Moeen start to do it. Adil Rashid and Zafar Ansari can do it. Moeen Ali is a front line batter who is learning the trade of off-spin at international level.

Applause in the Long Room as the players come through, the umpires sharing a handshake as they step over the boundary rope. The batsmen, Yasir Shah and Mohammad Amir, skip and stretch. Stuart Broad is marking out on his run.

More from England's Joe Root on BBC Test Match Special: It's just about making sure with our shot selection, and our plans, that we're really on it. We want to keep putting them under pressure when we get the opportunities.

The fact is that Yasir Shah knows he's gong to have to bowl us out. If we bat for two days we can do this. If we play sensibly and knock it around, no bowler can bowl a spell without a bad ball.

There's a couple of subplots to keep an eye on too. Chris Woakes has 11 wickets in the match, with two still available. No England bowler has had a 13-wicket Test since Ian Botham in 1980. Also, England's over-rate has been awful and it may well be too late to save. Alastair Cook is potentially threatened with a ban.

England's Joe Root on BBC Test Match Special: We really want to do it as quickly as possible. It would be nice to get it done before the new ball. Our work as a bowling unit has been impressive. If we take that attitude into our batting it would be really nice.
