    Hafeez c Ballance b Moeen 42 (Pak 83-3)

Breakthrough for England! These two batsmen were looking very well settled but Moeen gets rid of Hafeez, who is caught at short leg. Moeen pitches the ball just a fraction full, tempting Hafeez forward. As he tries to defend the ball clips bat and pad and Ballance has an easy job.

Woakes is getting the ball to swing in well. Similar to his first over of the session, he gets another one within a whisker of an inside edge - Younus' this time. It had good carry as well so this manner of delivery has plenty of wicket potential. Younus then gestures for a bloke - a security guard I think - to get away from the sight screen, before he sees out the maiden over.

Just a comment on the sporting manner Pakistan have played this series so far and what a joy it is to see. Even up against it in this match, to a man they congratulated Root and played with smiles on their faces reminiscent of Brendon McCullum's New Zealand. All credit to them and Misbah.

Seems like the wind is picking up a bit, maybe why the crowd have gone a bit quiet? A bit huddled up? Although I did hear a lone voice shout "Pakistan zindabad" so not all quiet among the green brigade. Moeen gives away two runs from his latest over.

Woakes gets three slips and a gully to Younus. Four fielders inside the circle as well. Younus still manages to flick away to square leg for a double. How much concern will England have over Ben Stokes? He's only just come back from injury.

England have to keep their energy up in the field to compensate for the loss of a bowler. They have to make sure nothing slips.

    Hafeez 37, Younus 23

Not for the first time, Moeen is welcomed with a slog, as Hafeez charges down the track to launch him over long on for six. Also not for the first time this series, Moeen Ali pulls out his moon ball. Flies over the batsman's head and into a surprised Bairstow's hands. Everybody a bit bemused, and it's also rightly given a no-ball.

This is a worry - he stopped so abruptly, I think something has gone. It looks like the calf. Problems are mounting for England. They have lost a bowler and he doesn't look like he's going to come back.

When people go off straight away, you can sense it's serious. It's serious in the grand scheme of this match and also for the rest of the series.

  9. ouch!

Stokes off the fieldpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 25 July 2016

Major worry for England as Ben Stokes slowly walks off after sustaining what looks like a calf injury. Happened in the second delivery of the over and after he released the ball. Next scene, he's bent over clutching his right leg. Physio comes on and escorts Stokes off. Moeen Ali to finish the over.

Pitch doing funny things at the moment. Woakes' second delivery keeps low and swings away as it goes towards wicketkeeper Bairstow, who dives but can't prevent it from going through. Few deliveries later there's more bounce than a five-year-old's trampoline as Younus ducks and Bairstow holds on well.

I had to watch that twice to really be sure, but yes I can report that both of Younus' feet stayed on the ground as he stroked Stokes' full delivery for four through cover. A rare sight indeed. Not as rare as an actual flamingo with a bat, but close.

Pakistan aren't quite in the situation Dan describes, but they will need a monumental effort to avoid making the top 10 of the biggest defeats in Tests. I'll bring you a list a little later.

Woakes gets a tidy over in and Everest's summit looks closer by two whole runs.

In response to Nigel Ashworth (approx. 13:07) - Matthew Hayden beat Pakistan single-handedly in the second Test of the 2002 series. He scored 119 in the blistering heat, and Pakistan were bowled out for 59 and 53.

Younus stands about half-a-foot outside the crease to Ben Stokes. You do need extra space when you're trying to do a late-80s disco number whilst facing a cricket ball. Doesn't matter how the runs come though as Younus reaches for a wide-ish short ball and guides it over the slips for four. Not the most elegant of strokes but don't think he'll care much.

I wondered when Woakes would come on to bowl and it's answered in the first over. It's the second-best start for Woakes as well. He fires in a good inswinger at Hafeez first up and the ball just goes between inside edge and body. Could not have been closer to an edge! Hafeez recovers to glance down to fine leg for four.

I can see England's players readying to come out. Moeen Ali, in fact, is already on the edge of the boundary warming up, as is Chris Woakes. I wonder when we'll see the latter come on to bowl in this innings.

Pakistan 47-2 and looking at a proverbial mountain, described as Mount Everest earlier on TMS. At least they'll want to make it to base camp and stay there. Right now it's the equivalent of getting to Kathmandu and looking a bit scared of the climb.
