The overheads at Edgbaston are blue, the sun is shining, but the breeze remains high. Misbah would probably have been reasonably happy when he peered through the curtains this morning.

This pitch will definitely suit James Anderson and Stuart Broad. England have a nice mix of bowlers - Chris Woakes knows the pitch well, Anderson has taken wickets here before, Broad is very clever and Steven Finn was bowling 92mph last week.

297 doesn't sound massive but it is a decent total on this surface. There's a chance that England could bowl Pakistan out for a decent lead today- you only have to look at Pakistan in the series so far.

It was a pretty 50-50 first day. If you win the toss and bowl first, you expect to bowl a team out for 200-220. I think nearly 300 is a good effort by England.
If the ball swings today - and I think it will - it could be an exceptional first-innings score.

Test Match Special is on the air from Brumingham, you can listen on 5 live sports extra or via the various BBC radio apps.
We'll have the very best video highlights right here, where I'll also be waffling on for most of the day.

Stephen Hill: 300 looks a handy enough total if our bowlers bring their A Game.
For what it's worth, I reckon England have the edge. I'm not sure Pakistan will get a big enough lead to negate the downside of batting last.
But what do you think? England on top, or Pakistan in the pound seat? How do you see today unfolding?

Yep, day two in Birmingham and England will be looking to their bowlers, while Pakistan will probably need to bat until some point tomorrow if they are to gain a lead.
The match and the series are in the balance.
At the end of it all, England found themselves 297 all out. Enough on this surface that looks likely to offer a bit to the bowlers throughout? Very difficult to say.
If only time can tell, then that time starts now. Welcome.

Fixed rate or tracker? Red or black? Bat or field?
When Misbah-ul-Haq surprised us all by opting to field first at Edgbaston yesterday, he took a leap into the unknown.
And really, we're still none the wiser.
Sometimes you just don't know. Only time has the answer.
