    Anderson 9-2-18-1

A scowling Anderson continues to test Sami Aslam's patience outside off stump as he goes round the wicket. The leftie is up to the task. England still searching.

It feels as though there's a bit more happening for England in this session. Batting was starting to look a bit easy before lunch. The break came at the right time.

Broad finding shape away from the left-handed Aslam, but the ball goes much too early to concern a batsman who has looked assured in defence in only his second Test. An inside-edged single gets him off strike.

I've seen Anderson angrier after a catch has gone down, but a needless overthrow from Chris Woakes as the ball slipped out of his hand won't have improved the pacer's mood one jot. Moeen Ali does his bit for team spirit with a scrambling stop at mid-wicket. Just that single off the over.

It was a sharp chance to Root, but you'd still expect him to take it, say, eight times out of 10. You don't see many of them go down from arguably England's best slip catcher. Stuart Broad from the other end, giving up just a single to Sami Aslam.

How crucial could that be? Joe Root's had a fantastic year catching in the slips. It was one of those where your weight is not going towards the ball to catch it.

Chance! And down! Anderson lures Azhar Ali into a flashing drive with an outswinger, Joe Root, at second slip, goes two-handed to his left and spills it. That was a toughie - the ball was between first and second slip and at chest height. Root's hands were pointing horizontally when they met the ball. They are on his head now.

I'll say it now. This next hour is very, very crucial to this Test match. If England can get a couple of wickets, that makes it very interesting.

Anderson has bowled one ball and now there's an interminable delay as someone does something behind the bowler's arm. Whoever was responsible had 40 minutes at lunch to get his stuff together. It's a good job Geoffrey's not on TMS at the moment.

Anderson has the ball in hand. Azhar Ali twidles with his bat grip and does some faffing with his pads. Let's play.

The afternoon session is almost upon us, with opener Sami Aslam set to resume on 27 and Azhar Ali 38. After James Anderson's breakthrough with the fourth ball, England have gone 26 overs without success. What lies in store for the next two hours?

Thanks Steph. Sterling job. I hope you've all lunched well. I suspect England's may have been interrupted by a few words from Alastair Cook or Trevor Bayliss, along the lines of "let's sort this bowling out".
