There's a man in the crowd dressed as a prawn, surrounded by a group of chefs. We've got nuns, traffic cones and Minions. Give me fancy dress over the shirt-and-tie brigade at Lord's any day. Rahat to Root, more of the miserly stuff. Game not really going anywhere, which suits Pakistan.

It's been a good partnership after the Cook and Hales dismissals. It was a pressure situation for England. The game is still on a knife edge. If Pakistan get a quick double...

Yasir continues to twirl away in the sunshine, short leg moved across to silly point. There's England relief after that drop of Root, but there's been no great desire to break the stranglehold currently being applied. Just over 15 minutes to go until lunch.

Rahat is bowling well enough to get two or three. That's a key moment, you can't be dropping Joe Root.

Huge chance! The Pakistan plan almost works and Joe Root is given a life. Rahat Ali has banged away on that off-stump line and eventually Root gets an edge. It's dying all the way to first slip Mohammad Hafeez, reaching him almost at grass-level. He gets both hands to it, but can't scoop the ball. Tough, but should be taken. Big moment?

She could hide under the covers for an over.

This is an incredible delay. The sightscreen is elongated by a white sheet over a large bank of seats. Somehow, one lady has got trapped between the sheet and the railing, inching her way up the steps. How has she got there? Where is she going? When she gets to the top, she realises she has nowhere to go and turns to find the whole ground looking at her. Stuck, a steward starts to make his way over the sheet before the lady decides to turn back. When she finally gets back the bottom, we can resume. She returns to her seat. "There was a Dragonite up there. Ruddy James Vince stopped me from getting it."

Misbah is clapping like mad. He's encouraging his bowlers, who are doing well. If you keep this pressure up, something will happen.

A couple of spectators have umbrellas up in order to shield themselves from the sun. I'm not sure it's that hot. More hide-the-ball stuff from Rahat, drawing Root into a loose drive. The tourists have sent down four maidens in a row. They have put the lid on and nailed it down.

So what's the state of this game? It hasn't really moved on a great deal in this morning session. Runs have dried up and, at the current rate, England are unlikely to have comfortable lead come the close. If anything, Pakistan have control. A couple of wickets and they will be bang on top.

A worrying sight for England, Joe Root summoning the physio to attend to his back. Root, remember, has had back problems in the past. He takes a couple of tablets, then dances around to loosen himself. When he's ready to take strike again, Rahat hangs the ball even further outside the off stump, drawing applause from Misbah. Stalemate.

There's a lady in the front row quaffing some bubbles from a glass flute. Excellent preparation to bring that sort of vessel to the Test with you. Yasir, cunning, fires one in and hits Vince on the pads. Hint of a question, but that's going down the leg side.

I don't think we knew about reverse swing when we were playing. When Imran Khan started doing it, we didn't know about reverse swing. He was an aggressive bowler.

Rahat runs in from the shaded part of the ground, eventually delivering the ball on to a pitch that is bathed in sunshine. More tests of Vince's patience, the ball angled across with the slightest hint of away swing. Vince, so far, has shown the necessary discretion. Mind you, getting this far has not been a problem. It's what comes next...

This third-wicket pair are slowly repairing the damage done early this morning. Partnership worth 36, grown when Vince eases Yasir through the covers (where else?) for a couple. Test pretty much dead level. Pitch not doing much, ball 50 overs old. But stick two wickets on that score...
