Pete Humphris: How about reducing the score of the bowling team for each over they are short? eg 4 per over.

On the subject of being given something by a cricketer, kit from the pros often finds its way into the club game. Former Northants and Notts off-spinner Jason Brown started at my club, so I'm the owner of one of his Notts shirts with "Brown 3" on the back. Another one of our players wears Hamish Marshall's old pads (not all the time, but he probably would if he could).

    Weather forecast

BBC Weather's Alex Deakin: "The weather is almost perfect today. It's going to be a cracking day - up to 23 or 24C. Don't forget the sun screen, the hat - the works. Tomorrow will be fresher with a breeze, but another full day's play is expected."

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur on TMS: "It's bubbling up into a great Test match. I wish it wasn't. I wish we'd kept our advantage. We're going to have a couple of nerve-wracking days..."

Alex Hales needs a three-figure score and he's got the perfect opportunity. The pitch looks an absolute road - there's nothing for a batsman to feel threatened by. If he does get his first Test century, we might see a player go from strength to strength.

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur on TMS: "We scrapped hard with the bat so I was happy to take a lead of over 100. We didn't think it was a match-winning lead but we thought if we could two or three out then we would be in the ascendancy.

"I was really disappointed with our last session because after we worked so hard to get ahead, we almost handed it back in that session.

"We have spoken out our length, bowling one side of the wicket and building pressure - and we didn't do that in the last session.. We know pressure equals wickets."

England's Chris Woakes on TMS: "I think it's all even. It's a good pitch. The heavy roller took a bit out of it but there's still something there.

"The way the openers have put on 120 is fantastic - the way the guys have played have made it look very easy."

I always look at body language in the morning and I think Pakistan might feel last night's session cost them the Test match.

While you're thinking about that, stick TMS into your ears. The boys in Birmingham can be heard on 5 live sports extra or by clicking the live coverage tab at the top of this page.

Later we'll have the best video highlights as they happen, but you knew that already, right?

And, while we're at it, are you bothered about over-rates?

Do the media make too much of slow cricket because it elongates their working day? After all, Test cricket is more exciting than it's ever been, right? Aren't fans happy to spend an extra half an hour in the ground?

Or is it a genuine problem that the ICC must address? Are the pros short-changing us? Usual channels...

Outstanding from all concerned, with Alexis later confirming that he had donated the money to the Lord's Taverners.

Which leads me to ask the question, when have you ever been given something by a cricketer? Or, has a cricketer ever apologised to you?

So Alexis tweeted some members of the England team - Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and James Anderson - asking for a 10% refund.

    This happened...

And, have you seen this brilliant story overnight?

Alexis Fuller was one of 20,000 or so inside Edgbaston yesterday that was robbed of nine overs through a slow over rate.

Now, I know Alexis from our university days (morning, Lex) and can confirm that he is rather grumpy.

But, rather than just moaning, he did something about his disgruntlement...

...England wiped out a first-innings deficit of 103 and nudged themselves into a little lead.

That is where we begin today. England 120-0, effectively 17-0 in this one-innings game.

Cook and Hales at the crease, the home side looking to set a target that is beyond Pakistan's reach. To prevent that, the tourists are hunting wickets.

First it looked like Pakistan had dropped a clanger in fielding first, then it seemed unlikely they would made such a good fist of it with the bat.

And, after all that, with England teetering on the brink, they staged an eyebrow-raising fightback through Alastair Cook and Alex Hales.
