Younus' score of 218 ended a run of eight Test innings without a triple-figure score or even a half-century. The veteran joined a select band of Pakistani cricketers to have made double hundreds, and even joins Sir Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, and Graham Gooch on the list of players aged 35 and above with most 150-plus scores - five.

He said on Sky Sports: "As a senior player there are lots of expectations. The way I started here, the first 100 in warm-up and a 50 as well, I thought it would go well. But suddenly it wasn’t happening. I had to try and stay calm. Coach Mickey Arthur and the support staff had to push me, they were there for me, I worked hard and things came my way."

England's Steven Finn on Sky Sports: "The evening session hurt us as a team. We’ve been in these situations before so we will come out tomorrow and fight for this Test. You have to give credit to Younus and Asad Shafiq. The way we got them out previously in the series, they have gone and worked on those techniques and come back."

James Anderson did not bowl from 10:52 BST until past 15:00.

How many times have I said, he's one of the top four fast-medium bowlers England have ever had. The batsmen came out after lunch and who bowled? Joe Root, bowling a mixture of off-spin, leg-spin, seam and rubbish. Inexplicable. At the start of a new session, you must get your best bowler on. But Riaz and Amir stayed in while Younus made runs at the other end.

So the equation stands thusly, England on 88-4, they trail by 126. Gary Ballance is on four and Jonny Bairstow on 14. Or another way to put it would be, Pakistan need six wickets to equal the Test series 2-2. Yasir was been the star bowler for Pakisan today, but a few more of shots like these from Bairstow and there may still be hope of a fifth day in this Test match.

Pakistan's Younus Khan on Sky Sports: "I think it was a good day for us. Pakistan cricket is all about that. Sometimes we were down, but the way we come back is good for us. That’s why people follow us. In this series we have a young bowling attack. They don’t regularly play with each other. But the way we came back, especially the way Wahab bowled was fantastic."

In the chaos, any small sense of a recovery would have been crucial to England's confidence. Root and Ballance were together for 5.5 overs, for 19 runs. Root had made 39 of his own as well, but on came Yasir and threw one of his sliders on. Result, Root trapped lbw trying to play it off the back foot. Given out, and even the review could not save him.

At least Ballance had some luck going for him, even if it came off a nervy moment courtesy of Yasir Shah. The leg-spinner had left-handed Ballance trapped in front lbw, given not out. Misbah wasn't sure if it would be reversed but reviewed anyway. Turns out, Ballance's long, long stride was too long for the third umpire's liking - 2.5m to be precise.

James Vince's shot was unbelievable. He's playing for his career, scoring 20s and 30s, but he's always looking to go inside-out through the covers. Third ball, it isn't even there to drive but he drives it on the up, shoulder-high for a catch. The stupidest shot you can imagine, and for me it's the end of his Test career. Alex Hales played down the wrong line, it hit him on the back leg, he was given lbw and he reviewed it. He's not going to be a great opening bat, not even a good one as to me. I don't care what his mates say, he can play one-day but he is not a quality opening batsman.

If Cook's dismissal sent a few nerves down home fans, Hales and Root looked to have settled them as they worked their way to a 35-run stand. But when it's your day, it's your day. Yasir Shah, who got a vital 26 for his side with the bat, removed Hales and Vince in successive overs - over five deliveries in fact. And suddenly, England looked in trouble.

Pakistan have done to England what England did to them at Old Trafford. They've batted them out of the game. This morning, they could have blown the tail away, with a new ball 10 overs old - the opportunity was there but it didn't happen. It was gun-barrel straight and didn't really do anything with the new ball, and Pakistan played fantastically.

In absolute terms, England had a simple task, see off the new ball, and make a start on overcoming the 214-run lead. Didn't matter that Pakistan had made them toil for two sessions and a bit. Didn't matter that Younus had scored his double ton. Surely, all that was needed was a patient start from Cook and Hales and England would be away.

As with all of cricket's best-laid plans, this one started to unravel as soon as the ball began swinging - Cook the first to suffer, with Wahab Riaz the benefactor.

Any hope for England?

Not really, no. Show some pride and bat for as long as you can. Yasir Shah will be waiting to get back out there tomorrow, he'll want six or seven.

Back-to-back maidens to finish off another chastening day for England. I said at the start of their innings this was like a football match with one team 3-0 down at half-time. It's gotten worse for the hosts. Iftikhar rounds up the day, one for Pakistan to savour.

I feel a bit sorry for people who have tickets for tomorrow, but Pakistan have had a relentless day, about as good as day as they could have had. Tickets are available for tomorrow - it could be a great day for England, but you'd have to be a great optimist to think that.

Well, that would be that for Yasir - for today anyway. We still have one more over to come by my reckoning. But Yasir finishes off with a maiden, and it's been a great day for him.

Pakistan have been magnificent this season. They were fantastic at Lord's, had an off game at Old Trafford where they didn't look the same team, came back strongly at Edgbaston but just had that iffy last day and a half - and they've been tremendous here. England are so frustrating. It's difficult to be a pundit with them - within five days they come out and play utter garbage.

Louise Davis: Nailing MA dissertation on Mon so hoped England would wrap this up in four days to limit distractions. This not what I had in mind.
