Ballance tries to sweep it away, and is trapped on the front pad. Given not out. Misbah holds a long conference before deciding to review.

I bet Tuffers is feeling both good and bad about his prediction that England would lose a few wickets before the close today. And yes I must agree with Ste that the hosts could be in danger of folding without setting a target. Are we heading to a mirrored effort from the one at Edgbaston? How long before the likes of Moeen and Bairstow are fighting for every run? Can Joe Root do a Younus and pull out a double ton? And can I end this line of questioning here? (Yes). Amir is back in the attack and Ballance gets off the mark with a drive to long off for a single.

Ste: Be surprised if we even make Pakistan bat again here, walking wickets all over the top order, down to usual suspects again...

Brilliant over from Yasir, who had Vince searching for answers before snaring him. Just prior to the dismissal, Yasir had got one to leave the bat and go centimeters wide of the off stump. Vince then paid the price for being a bit eager to score but not really wanting to put a straight bat through at an acute angle.

That will be a long walk off for Vince. Third ball, tossed up, we've seen that cover drive all summer and he's caught by Misbah. That's a mentally frazzled brain. You're thinking 'just bat time, see out the day'.

    Vince c Misbah b Yasir 0 (Eng 55-3)

Collapsing like a flan in a cupboard. England in trouble as Vince rather lazily drives at Yasir's fuller ball, only to send it straight to Misbah at cover. Yasir has two wickets in five of his deliveries.

Piers Young: Hales’s review doesn’t seem to be the sort of request made by a man thinking of his team. Plum and poor show.

Jake Goodwill: Awful review from Hales especially considering game situation. Must be spending too much time with Stuart Broad.

Stuart Owens: And that will be the end of Alex Hales as an opener I would fear. I'd drop him down to five. Not canny enough to open.

Hales' average for this series is about 18. Add the manner of dismissal in the first innings (caught by Yasir, rememeber?) and the 15% fine for showing dissent, and you are looking at a man in danger of screaming your head off. Autograph hunters, seek him at your peril. Root, meanwhile, gives England some hope by pulling Sohail well through mid-wicket for four. A good shot to a rising delivery and for the first time the chants of "Roooooooooot" fill The Oval.

Alex Hales has gone back to that, he was so late coming forward. And it shows you the mindset of a player when he doesn't consult his partner before reviewing. You know when you have a really good day or week? Hales has had the opposite of that.

That was absolutely plumb. Maybe the magic of Shane Warne talking to him helped, as that didn't turn.

Hales lbw Yasir 12 (Eng 49-2)

Gone! Well, well, well. This battle between Hales and Yasir has another chapter for the book. Hales prods forward but there's a big gap between bat and pad, ball in fact clips both pads I think. Only one required on review to show how much of the middle stump would have gone. Out.

He hasn't hit it, but he could be lbw.

Did that just clip the front pad on the way through? It all happened so quickly.

Somehow I don't think they'll change much for the winter tours. I don't think the selectors and the coach are ready for change, and I don't think they know where else to go for players. Is there someone saying 'pick me'? I don't think they think so.

Misbah, with each passing hour and day, looks more and more like a person I'd pay good money to watch give a TED talk. Languid and relaxed when he can be, and stately when the situation calls for it. As Sohail Khan grunts away, Misbah ponders his next bowling change, and I think we shall see a bit of Yasir now.

You'd have to say this is a better pitch to bat on now than it was on the first day. That said, why wouldn't you bowl first, if you need 20 wickets to win the match?

Cook's not going to make any more runs, but that doesn't stop the captain from getting a bit of reading done in the dressing room. Well, he's poring over the match program anyway. Surely a bit late to find out your opponents' weaknesses? Wahab has the first over after drinks, and Hales welcomes him with a sweet drive to the cover boundary, getting down low to a full and wide delivery.

What I would be thinking is 'if I'm still batting after lunch tomorrow, they wouldn't be so fast then'. They'd be medium pace. I just think of what my Uncle Algy said - you can't make runs in the pavilion. Alastair Cook's not going to make any more runs in this match, is he?
