  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.5 overs

    Azhar c Moeen b Rashid 82 (Pak 178-4)

More sweeps than a Sooty convention. Azhar looks to clatter Rashid to leg repeatedly but it costs him as he misjudges and skies a catch to Moeen at short third man.

  2. Pak 173-3published at 35 overs

This is a very different Azhar Ali now. He plants his front foot to his left and smashes Plunkett down the ground for four. But for a bit of poor timing, he would have had a lot more runs as well. He has gone from Boycott to McCullum in the flick of a switch.

I don't think England will mind chasing anything around 300. It's a good pitch.

  4. Wickets to fall so farpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

If you're just joining us, England have taken three wickets so far today. Missed them? You can watch them right here...

  5. Pak 167-3published at 34 overs

Here we go. Azhar meets a full Rashid ball with a slightly lofted drive through extra cover. Four more. The way TMS are talking it looks like we might have some rain soon. This country.

  6. Pak 158-3published at 33 overs

Ugly... but effective. Azhar takes a stride to meet a short ball from the returning Plunkett and heave him to cow corner for four. Looks like the tourists are going to chance their arm from now on.

There was a cricket match in Heartbeat which featured Dicky Bird as one umpire, Martin Bicknell as a batsman and, as two old curmudgeons on the boundary, Brian Close and Ray Illingworth. There was also a cricket match in The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy on the radio which had the great Henry Blofeld and Fred Trueman as themselves.

England's spin duo have done a grand job of checking Pakistan's attempts to slip the reins and charge off. However, Azhar is given chance to have a huge ugly wipe at a full one from Rashid and add four to the Pakistan total. Maybe it is time for seam again?

Azhar should bat through. Of course he should look for the boundaries later on, but he should let the likes of Sarfraz play the big shots.

There are umbrellas up. No rain, just purely to gain shelter from the sun, which is doing a proper job on the Ageas Bowl today. The Pakistan lads keep it sweaty with five singles off Moeen.

    There's a cloud coming over, it's a naughty colour. There's a storm brewing.

  13. Pak 140-3 (Sarfraz 15, Azhar 55)published at 30 overs

Is this a sign that Azhar is looking to open up? It is his most attacking stroke in a while - a sweep off Rashid to claim four. 30 gone, 20 to go.

We're in the 29th over. They generally say if you're three down or less, you can double the score from the 32nd over. They're on for about 280.

  15. Pak 134-3published at 29 overs

Just the two runs off the over. Nothing risky from Pakistan. They are in a decent position with wickets in the tent but it only counts if they make it happen from here.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Azharpublished at 28.4 overs

    Pak 134-3

Azhar has taken his sweet time but he reaches 50 with a single to leg. He is the spine of this Pakistan innings and will be looking to bat through now while others no doubt swipe around him.

One fella walks back to his seat with four pints in one of those cardboard carriers. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all for him. Dangerous drinking weather, though.

There is a low hum around the ground from fans waiting for something to happen. The game is simmering at the moment. Four runs off Rashid in that over.

It is hotter than a toasted pitta out there. Sapping. Especially as Pakistan are now in quick single territory to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Moeen is taken for four singles.
