The match has been abandoned. England win and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

So, here is the current situation. It's raining, the players are off, England are well ahead on DLS (par is 150 and they are currently 194-3). If we don't get back on, England win. If we do get back on, England will probably win.

Oh, and the stands are pretty much empty now.

They need to be back on and playing by 22:10.

Spinner Mohammad Nawaz is the first man to bowl after the break. He manages just three balls before the players are taken off again for more rain. That is the cue for many of the remaining fans to call it a night. I don't blame them.

There are some almighty queues for buses outside the Ageas Bowl right now. Not the ideal way to end your night. Very British, though.

The Pakistan players are back out on the field, ready to play in front of a hugely reduced crowd. There is still a bit of rain in the air. Lets hope this doesn't become farcical.

England at their best would be more dominant but in Morgan and Stokes they have two batsmen who have not batted much.

It's important for the whole series that they give themselves a little bit of time in the middle. It would have been a risk for these two to be too positive too soon, and the pressure would have grown on them if they'd got out.

I think England will expand into more aggression in the next match.

We are being told that play will restart at 21:35.

The rain has stopped. The covers are coming off. Looks like we'll be getting some cricket soon.

Root was the most recent man to fall, run out by his skipper...

But as it stands, with the teams off the field for rain, England are winning on DLS.

Jason Roy and Joe Root then took over, adding 89 for the second wicket before the former was caught on the edge by Babar for 65...

England were always favourites to make their 261 target. They have had a couple of minor wobbles, though. This is the first, with Alex Hales falling to a familiar kind of dismissal...

As Michael says, Eoin Morgan hasn't had a lot of innings of late (injury has played the biggest part in that) but he looks in decent nick (we'll brush over the Root run out)...

I don't think Eoin Morgan plays enough. I know he's had injuries but he only seems to play for England. It's so important to get a lot of batting under your belt to get your rhythm, consistency and touch.

There's pressure on his place but his captaincy is very good and that stands him in great stead. I would give him a 20-run start as a captain because of the way he's led the team and the culture he's created. He's been that good in the last year.

When Ben Stokes hits a ball it stays hit, even when he's just prodding at it. He sends a ball rocketing down the ground for four off Malik with the most innocuous of forward pushes. It will be the last major act for a bit. The rains persistence has taken a toll and off we go.
