  1. Eng 204-4published at 38 overs

    Target 252

Less than 50 required form here on (48 to be precise), as Jos Buttler is the new man in. Could Root be a dearie and let the Lancashire man score all those runs? Probably not. But be nice if England didn't lose anymore wickets.

It was almost like he was expecting the short one - it was an unsightly heave. He has batted well - and it's nice to see him back in an England shirt. Pakistan didn't really celebrate that wicket - they've given up the ghost.

    Stokes b Hasan 42 (Eng 203-4)

Third time unlucky for Stokes, who flicked Hasan for two fours through the mid-wicket area. The third time he tries to heave it rather than be all tricksy like, but ends up being bowled. Shame as he'd have liked to have taken England home.

This game is a walk in the park for England because Pakistan aren't being brave enough to try something to get that wicket.

  6. Eng 194-3published at 37 overs

    Root 74, Stokes 34

Stokes has had enough of plodding about and walks down the track to loft Yasir Shah over long on for six. Crowd have woken up enough to throw down a few "wheyyys". Maybe it's the cricket, maybe it's the beer. Either way, good to hear.

What on earth did that come off?! That just took off! It was a brute of a ball. Hasan Ali was suddenly like Jeff Thompson.

  9. Eng 184-3published at 36 overs

    Target 252

Bumper! Not sure if it was deliberate from Hasan or not but his shorter delivery absolutely ripped off the surface and took Stokes by surprise. The batsman tried to get out of the way, the ball took the edge and flew over slip. It's gone for four as well just to make Pakistan feel worse about it. Even Stokes couldn't believe the result and expresses as much to Root during the customary fist-bump.

    Root 72, Stokes 17

Now is our twilight of discontent. Ben Stokes is unhappy about something either said or done, Yasir Shah looks on with his usual wide smile. Imad looks like he has things to say as well. The umpire stands in between both sets of players. Shah returns for a spell keeping a slip for the right-handed Root, who also has a wasp in front of his face for company. Four off the over and we enter another dull phase in today's game.

Pakistan need a wicket. Otherwise this game is not going to run away from them - it's going to stroll away from them.

England need 82 more to win

Two cuts, two different stories. Check out Morgan's half-century and his wicket below. Stokes, meanwhile, moves into double figures with a glanced four off his feet as Wahab bowls it on near full-toss length. There is a typical Lord's applause for that. Nothing wild, more of the 'good show, good show' variety.

  14. Eng 161-3published at 33 overs

    Root 68, Stokes 8

Pakistan fans in the crowd can do not a lot except put hands on their heads and wonder where it went wrong. Stokes clubs a four off Imad, while Root is making this look easy as he reverse paddles for a double. Lovely sunshine at Lord's now which will make for some fine celebration weather should this go England's way.

    England need 99 to win

It is not for a humble mortal such as I to speculate on the complex and elevated deliberations of the mighty but it's nice of the prime minister to drop in! Hope Mrs May is enjoying England's display. Left-arm Wahab Riaz runs his burly figure in from both sides of the wicket, and flirts with the red zone on the middle of the pitch. But he can't prevent five being conceded included a triple to Root.

The heavily tattooed arms of Ben Stokes now emerge from the dressing room. Morgan will be a bit disappointed with himself, but take solace from the 112-run stand that has set up England's victory push. Imad, chewing gum, tries something different with a round-the-wicket opener to Stokes but the batsman has no trouble defending.

It was another non-spinning delivery but it was quicker and fuller than Morgan thought. He tried to cut what ended up as a good-length delivery. That was nearly 60mph. It's a very, very handy innings from Morgan and represents a bit of a return to form - but there's a bit more work to be done.

    Morgan b Imad 68 (Eng 147-3)

Well, twirly action or not, Imad has made the breakthrough bowling Morgan. The England captain tries to make space outside of leg stump to cut away. Perhaps the pace and bounce did him in? It looked a skiddy sort of delivery and beats Morgan to the stumps.
