PD31: I suspect the early rounds of the next World Cup will see a top team break the 500 barrier against an Associate member.

That's assuming any of the Associates qualify now the ICC has reduced it to 10 teams.

This has been a good start. Has me in mind of that Johannesburg game, where 434 played 438...

  3. Pak 45-1 (Target 445)published at 6 overs

The runs keep coming. England have caught the poor fielding bug. Adil Rashid misfielded one in the last over and now Eoin Morgan allows the ball to go through him and run to the rope.

Nobody near an on drive from Azhar, though. Four more.

Pakistan are going at 7.5. The required rate is going up. Madness.

If you count Yasir Shah, Azhar Ali and Shoaib Malik collectively as the fifth bowler, they went for 112.

    We've just seen a 444. Has there ever been a 111, 222, and a 333? Will there ever be a 555?

Well, Sharjeel is doing his bit. He swivels and swats a 90mph Wood delivery wide of mid-on for four and then hits the rope again with a straight leg-drive. The over ends with a third boundary as Azhar gets in on the act with a flick off his legs. I think that might be the end of Wood for now.

Mark Savile: Chasing 445 and facing 92.5mph bowling from Wood, who'd want to be a batsman?!

Stuart Mitchell: Mike Atherton raised a good point, this 444 is at TB not the Wanderers, imagine how many fours would be sixes there and overall score.

Pakistan don't just need a captain's innings here from Azhar Ali, they a Captain America-esque display. He joins Sharjeel as Woakes seals a wicket maiden.

He's got a few wickets with that short ball this summer, especially in this one-day series, as he's added a few mph and has surprised the batsman with some extra pace.

    Sami c Moeen b Woakes 8 (Pak 21-1)

This is the problem for Pakistan - the pressure to score is so great that they must play attacking shots to every possible run-scoring ball. If they don't connect properly - as Sami does here to a Woakes short ball - they are liable to fall - as Sami does, to a Moeen catch at square leg.

  11. "444 - that's nothing"published at 18:35 British Summer Time 30 August 2016

This was the game in 2007 - when James Benning (152) and Ali Brown (176) added 294 for the first wicket. Gidman took 0-28 in three overs.

  12. Pak 21-0published at 3 overs

Two slips in. The second of those, Ben Stokes, dives to his left to try and take a catch off a Sami poke but the ball goes a yard past his outstretched hand.

Sharjeel is operating only in boundaries. He whips Wood square to the rope. Pakistan have made a really good start. Still need nearly nine an over.

Mick Lewis will be a disappointed man tonight.

Wahab Riaz's 0-110 was three short of Lewis' 0-113 for Australia against South Africa in "the 438 game" in 2006 - the most expensive bowling analysis in ODI history.

  14. Pak 10-0published at 2 overs

As Andy Zaltzman points out on TMS, Pakistan are ahead of where England were after one over.

Chris Woakes ensures that is not the case after two overs. He does concede a boundary last ball, though, as Sharjeel pulls a short ball for four.

  15. Pak 5-0published at 1 over

England didn't review that lbw shout. They should have. It was out. That would have kicked the very last bit of stuffing out the tourists.

Sharjeel gets the chase up and running with a punched drive through cover for four. Pakistan need that to be the first of many.

  16. Pak 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Big appeal first ball as Mark Wood traps Sami Aslam. Not out. can't take your eyes off this for a second.
