  1. ouch!

    Pak 98-3published at 13 overs

A ball after clubbing Plunkett to cow for four, Sarfraz gets between a Stokes throw and the stumps and takes one to the back of his thigh. The fielder didn't hold anything back as well. That'll have stung.

The Duckworth Lewis par score is 184. 184!

In our day, not having bowled for as long as Stokes hasn't, we'd need second team games and the like, but he's come back and put it on a length immediately.

Tom Sheridan: Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't England the most consistently, inconsistent team in the world.

  4. Pak 90-3 (Target 445)published at 12 overs

Fresh from taking that important catch, Ben Stokes returns to the England bowling attack for the first time since his injury. He mixes his pace and his length and keeps Pakistan in check.

The sun is setting on Nottingham... and on the tourists' extremely slim hopes of challenging this total.

BBC Somerset's Charlie Taylor: The bad fielding bug is extremely contagious, it's also rife in Nottingham. Symptoms include diving over balls & drops. Ben Stokes is of course immune.

Dave Wood: As good a batsman as Hales is, he's a terrible fielder.

  6. Pak 86-3published at 11 overs

That fielding Kryptonite that seems to have weakened everyone else out there doesn't affect Ben Stokes. He can catch pigeons that boy.

Sarfraz is out to join Babar. He can make scores. I'm not sure he can do it the rate required, which is frankly ridiculous.

Liam Plunkett's first over goes for a very tidy three.

Beautifully taken by Stokes, who was cool as ever. Even with 444 on the board, Sharjeel Khan was going very strong and giving the Pakistan fans something to cheer about.

That looked like it was going for six, but Ben Stokes doesn't drop them. He didn't have to move. I loved that innings. Unless something ridiculous happens, England will win this by a big distance, but they've got to take their chances when they come.

    Sharjeel c Stokes b Woakes 58 (Pak 83-3)

Sharjeel's brilliant one-man run-chase comes to an end. A ball after clubbing Woakes into the stand at cow corner, he tries to repeat the trick and is caught by Stokes on the midwicket boundary. That was fun while it lasted. England will be very happy to see the back of him. Woakes sends him back to the changing room with a choice word or two.

52 not out from 26 balls - the adrenaline must be going through his veins. He's hit 12 fours, he's been dropped - but he doesn't care.

Sharjeel is loving this. The Pakistan crowd is loving this. He has hit 12 fours to bring up his 50. Woakes, like Wood, doesn't know where to bowl to him.

That just encapsulates Sharjeel Khan as a player. He's so good off his hips.

Oh dear, oh dear, on dear. The ball pretty much hit Hales there. This fielding, it's contagious!

  14. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 9 overs

    Pak 69-2

Alex Hales - from the sublime to the ridiculous. Sharjeel takes Mark Wood for four straight fours - three of which came off his hips - and then, from the last ball, another hip-flick travels straight to Hales at deep backward square and he drops him.

The batting in this game has been world class. The fielding has been primary school.

You have to feel for Azhar Ali, that just sums up his day. He went for 20 off his one over, his side were hit for 444 and when he tries to get on with it, he's caught at third man. And he lost the toss!

    Azhar c Rashid b Woakes 13 (Pak 50-2)

The pressure will destroy Pakistan here. One tight over and it leaves Azhar with no choice but to swing wildly to keep up. He slices a full ball from Woakes down to third man, where Adil Rashid takes the catch.

Even though it's a monstrous total, I do want to see Pakistan put up a bit of a fight - and I want to see more from Sharjeel Khan, who can be very powerful.
