  1. Pak 32-1published at 8 overs

    Jordan 4-1-24-1

Sami Aslam decides to try and break the stranglehold and carves Chris Jordan through the off side. It's a big, loose shot and it only brings two. He's then deceived later in the over by CJ. Something has to give, you suspect.

England, since the 2015 World Cup, have hit a four every 8.4 deliveries.

    Willey 4-2-6-0

There are shades of Ian Bell when David Willey over-pitches and the right-handed Azhar Ali leans into a lovely cover drive to the boundary. Pakistan still running in treacle at the moment though. They just can't get going.

250 will not cut it anywhere in this modern game. If as a team you say we'll get as many as we possibly can, then people say isn't that the most obvious thing? It isn't. Many teams will have a definite target for say the 20-over mark and so on. They keep 250, 280 as a target. But some teams have stopped doing that these days.

  5. Pak 24-1published at 6 overs

    Pakistan won toss

England have six close fielders on the off side who are walking in with purpose and suffocating the batsmen with their aggression and very presence. Like a pack of teenagers hanging about near a bus stop - there's a lot of attitude, chirp and bantz.

Another maiden over. Two in a row now - this one being sent down by Chris Jordan.

The noise in the ground is something to behold. It's like being in the West Indies. A lot of noise from Pakistan supporters, who have turned out in their droves to push their team towards a win in this series.

I do wonder if better sides would be getting stuck into David Willey a little earlier than Pakistan seem to be. He's being allowed to land the ball on a sixpence, inviting a hint of swing. Maiden over played out by the skipper, Azhar Ali.

Michael, Methley: Yorkshire A Team Playing Hampshire today. Yorkshire B team playing Pakistan.

Anonymous: Why do England rate Chris Jordan so highly? Bowls 82/83 mph with very little control - his strength is yorkers but that only comes in handy in the final 10 overs.

This is a good bit of bowling from Chris Jordan. It looked like the slower ball - it was spooned in the air. It's never, ever easy with the midday sun. But Ben Stokes took it.

    Sharjeel c Stokes b Jordan 16 (Pak 24-1)

Chris Jordan bowls a real pick-and-mix-style of deliveries. In one over, there's the rubbish, marshmallow-like stuff which is belted for boundaries either side of the wicket. Then there's the fizzy cola bottle delivery which holds up in the pitch, forces the dangerous Sharjeel into a loose shot and the ball flies high into the off side where Ben Stokes races round to take a good catch.

    Mixed bag. Last laugh.

Finally something for Pakistan fans to cheer when Sharjeel flicks a very average delivery from Chris Jordan over fine leg's head for six.

Excellent decision from Bairstow to stand up for himself and say it was going down. You don't want a keeper going 'oh I'm not sure'.

  13. Pak 11-0published at 3 overs

David Willey, he of the pop star girlfriend, is keeping Pakistan in check with some 82mph swing. He manages to get through Sharjeel's defences and hits the laconic batsman on his pads but the appeal is turned down. Sliding down leg. It's all very sedate early on.

    Aslam 2, Sharjeel 4

Chris Jordan is the only cricketer in England who I would select purely based on his fielding ability. His ability to take stunning catches can change games.

His bowling can be hit and miss, mind. He begins with a slider down the leg side and gradually drags his lines from left to right to the point he's called for an off-side wide. When he drops short, Sharjeel flicks him to the boundary in the manner of a man brushing a pesky wasp from around his ankles.

Willey's a swing bowler. He's not got much pace but he's a good bowler. He's possibly the most improved England player in the last five years.

  17. Pak 1-0 (Pak won toss)published at 1 over

Pakistan have two lefties opening their batting - Sami Aslam and the sturdy but destructive Sharjeel Khan. Just one leg bye from the opening set of six. Like the ODIs matches of old. It won't last...

Left-arm seamer David Willey, with a bit of strapping on his non-bowling arm, delivers the opening deliveries of this contest. A bit of shape away from the left-hander instantly gets the two slips interested.
