Rizwan lbw Rashid 6 (Pak 152-5)

Done him. Rizwan tries to defend to a flighted one from Rashid, but misses and gets struck on the front pad. I thought it was marginal, but the umpire has no hesitation in giving it out. Rizwan looks puzzled, walks down halfway for a chat with his skip, but eventually the batsman walks off. Probably best to save the reviews for Azhar methinks!

Nearly 10 overs between boundaries! Incredible in the modern age. Rare in a Test match these days, nevermind limited-overs cricket. Moeen's finished his over before I could publish the latest cat picture sent my way. Meow is as good a time as any...

That was the first boundary for 59 balls.

I seem to be getting lots of cat pictures on the live-text inbox. Is it some sort of national feline day I'm not aware of? Or have cats suddenly been proven to love cricket? Azhar Ali lifts a few Pakistan spirits by dancing down the track and lofting Rashid over extra cover for four. Very much out of the Kohli mould that shot, an inside-out bat swing to help it on its way.

HLC1221: Plunkett, Willey, Jordan and Stokes must be the best fielding unit of 4 fast bowlers ever seen. All top notch in the field.

That was a good catch - he was like Gary Bailey, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, as he dived to his left and plucked it out of the air.

Isa Guha adds: "I thought it was more like Shaka Hislop actually."

  8. Pak 142-4published at 31 overs

Looking at the Plunkett catch again, very much of the goalkeeper preventing a curling free-kick type. A couple of rolls to finish off the move and it all makes for a very good highlights clip. It's almost like we've been giving him lessons on what makes good telly. We haven't. Moeen keeps it tidy in the following over, and the Headingley crowd return to a general hum.

Liam Plunkett got up so nonchalantly and tossed the ball back as though he takes catches like that all the time. He does!

That would've been catch of the decade in the nineties.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    Sarfraz c Plunkett b Rashid 12 (Pak 136-4)

From the weird to the wonderful. England's Liam Plunkett pulls off another worldie catch - to go with his effort from Lord's - this time to dismiss Sarfraz, who stepped out and swung at Rashid's fuller delivery. The ball flew full pace to mid-on where Plunkett leapt high to his left to snare it. Excellent stuff,

That was a good 10 feet over the batsman's head. It wasn't an arm ball or a doosra, just one which slipped out of his grip.

  12. Pak 134-3published at 29 overs

Bizarro! Moeen produces one of those looping - more air than a Michael Jordan three-pointer - deliveries and it takes off to miss the batsman and a jumping Jonny Bairstow behind the wicket. I think it's chasing the 15:45 out of Leeds-Bradford as we speak. Rightly given a no-ball, and the free-hit ball is thumped to deep square leg by Sarfraz, where Ben Stokes takes a fantastic diving catch on the run. No wicket, and it brings the solitary run.

    Sarfraz 9, Azhar 59

Ben Stokes has an inner circle field on the off side that you could draw straight line down (if you were looking from a TV perspective). Azhar tries to pierce it nonetheless but can't succeed until the final ball, though it only yields a single. Plenty of trumpet noises being heard from the crowd. Nothing like a carnival atmosphere to fancy up the cricket.

Pakistan don't take any chances with Ben Stokes in the outfield. He's got the best arm of all the England fielders.

Sarfraz clearly has not learned from Babar's dismissal. He keeps trying to cut Moeen Ali. He nearly gets himself caught behind trying a very delicate dab/cut. Looked like he was playing with very soft hands, almost like a bunt from baseball. The ball went millimeters past his edge, as he survived.

Hello from sunny Berkshire. Stepped out of the office to walk around the Bake Off tents. I had a great time at the record-making day at Trent Bridge. Enjoying the commentary today. Good luck to the lads.

I think one of Sarfraz's shoelaces has come loose. Can anyone get the word out at the next changeover? Or maybe it's a good luck charm thing. No major dangers for this duo so far. They scamper for a few singles and doubles.

Cheers Marc. Has it been a bit of a let-down from the craziness at Trent Bridge? Possibly. But when you've got homemade cake from the house of Higginson and a bowl of vindaloo peanuts, it more than makes up for it. Welcome to the second half of the first innings. It's a funny place.

We're into the sleepy middle overs, where batsmen wear caps, the spinners twirl away and the field is set back.

    It needs some fresh impetus.

Luckily, I know just the man. Over to you, Bibhash Dash.
