The best players in ODI cricket - Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith - they're not blitzing it. They maintain a strike-rate of 80-90.

  2. Pak 113-3published at 24 overs

I may be wrong, but Adil Rashid seems quite grumpy today - tense in the face, berating fielders, glaring at the batsmen. Figures of 0-25 off four overs don't help matters.

That is Azhar Ali's 11th fifty in ODI cricket, two of which have been converted to centuries. That's also his second fifty in his last 16 innings.

A well-crafted fifty for the skipper comes up off 62 balls. He's been steady, orthodox and thrown in a couple of maximums for good measure. Now he has to make it three figures and give players like Sarfraz the platform they need.

You can cut the off-spinner if it's a rank long hop. When you try to manufacture the shot, that's when you get into trouble.

An English spinner has taken nine wickets in county cricket today...

Northamptonshre off-spinner Rob Keogh, whose previous best figures were 3-35, claimed 9-52 against Glamorgan on day two of their County Championship Division Two match at Cardiff.

Here's the full scorecard - plus live text updates and radio commentary on every game.

He went back and tried to give himself room. Plunkett took a good catch. It's a great start for Moeen Ali. I'm sure someone will remind Babar Azam that you shouldn't cut the off-spinner.

England have a breakthrough, just when it looked as if Pakistan might make a decent fist of this.

Babar tries to cut Moeen Ali through backward point, but the ball bounces higher than he expected, runs off the face of the blade and balloons to Liam Plunkett.

Legendary umpire Dickie Bird is enjoying a beverage in one of Headingley's posh seats, reserved for one of the county's most famous sons.

If Bird was out in the middle now, he'd be signalling for four as Adil Rashid is swept by Azhar Ali.

They're picking the leggie quite well.

It's incredible to think how solid England look in all formats. A year ago you wouldn't have expected this. The transition in limited-overs cricket was a big focus for Andrew Strauss and the rest of the England management.

  12. Pak 101-2published at 21 overs

    Plunkett 5-0-28-1

Liam Plunkett tries to restore some order with some bang-it-in stuff at speeds of 90mph. There's nothing subtle about it, but it stops Azhar Ali from hitting the ball to the boundary.

Azhar Ali is very clear in his art. He's going to get after it. He almost flat-batted it.

    Pak 98-2published at 20 overs

Azhar Ali is going bersek (by his standards) now. He gets down on one knee and slog-sweeps Adil Rashid into the crowd. A disdainful shot against the spinner - the like of which Shane Watson would regularly dish out.

That was Azhar Ali's ninth six in ODI cricket - off 1,853 balls faced. Not a great smiter of sixes.

Jonny Bairstow is clean shaven today, and sporting a razor-sharp haircut to match. I wonder if it's anything to do with coming home to Yorkshire, where his Mum Janet lives and works.

"Get yourself tidied up, son. You can't go out looking like that."

In other, more important news, Azhar Ali has taken a liking to Liam Plunkett - flicking the burly quick over deep square leg for a maximum. Fetch that.

  19. Pak 81-2published at 18 overs

Time for some leg-spin. Adil Rashid - one of the most important cogs in this England bowling unit once the middle overs come around - is milked by the Pakistan batsmen. A fielding mistake by Chris Jordan turns two into three and Rashid shouts at his team-mate. High standards.
