Bangladesh will feel very disappointed. They had the game in their hands in the second innings with a wonderful century partnership between Shakib Al Hassan and Imrul Kayes who both played the conditions and the ball coming on nicely under the dew with ease. Bangladesh lost the game in two areas, poor fielding dropping three key catches and also the lack of batting depth to take the game home at the end.

England's Ben Stokes, who made 101: "These are the things you need to be doing to become the best team in the world. To come back is a credit to us and also to Bally for getting five-for. It was a special win for us.

"It is very draining [the conditions]. As soon as you walk out you are dripping with sweat. It saps you. You go through four of five pairs of gloves. All credit to everyone who bowled."

England today have showed today not only are they progressing and adapting as a side with the ability to close out games, but have also showed that the future is bright. Jake Ball on ODI debut took the game by the scruff of the neck with the ball using his extra pace and bounce to take a five-for and England will be pleased with a real team performance to close a tight match home.  

Man of the match Jake Ball: "With the situation of the game, I thought I would just hit it hard and do my best. There was no chance of me coming off.

"There was a bit of varied bounce there and under the lights it skidded on more. I just looked to change the pace.

"These were difficult conditions for my first game. To get five-for is incredible.

"He [Adil Rashid] kept coming up to me and saying he would get more wickets than me. He is trying to claim the run out as a wicket but I'm not having that."

What a brilliant game to start the series. England today showed their white ball skills are growing from strength to strength. To to post over 300 on a slow wicket which at times was staying low shows not only are they able to adapt to the sub-continent conditions, but can continue to be aggressive and score big totals.

With the bat, Ben Duckett on debut showed what a talent he scoring his half century on debut coming in in a tricky position with England 63-3 and needed to apply patience and smart cricket. He was supported by his senior batsmen Stokes who in the process scored his maiden ODI century, picking up anything with length and dispatching to any boundary.

England captain Jos Buttler: "Further than halfway through, i'm thinking I got the toss all round and feeling frustated. Stokesy dragged everyone together and said to give it one last push. 

"They were cruising at one stage but with new batters coming in, it was fantastic bowling from Ball on debut. It's fantastic to continue that winning habit. 

"Adil has been fantastic for us for a long time and he was invaluable today. Duckett looked like a seasoned pro out there and he and Stokes showed what we want to be about. I probably got the toss wrong in those conditions so it was a fantastic partnership."

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza: "I thought it could have been an easy game for us but we lost too many wickets. It could have been great. 309 is always a difficult ask but it was good wicket to bat on. 

"Dropped catches cost us. We could have been chasing 280-290. That would have been a different setup.

"Imrul Kayes has been really good. This is back to back 100s and hopefully he can continue from here."

Edward Everitt: No doubt England will take all the plaudits but Bangladesh were woeful. They needed 39 with 6 wickets not more than an hour ago

Bangladesh were in total control and then along came Jake Ball. A word for Rashid, too, who finishes with figures of 4-49. The most pleasing thing will be the maturity a young team have shown. First Stokes and Duckett rescued England with the bat, before Ball dragged England back into the game.

It looked pretty much nailed on that England were going to lose that game. Kayes and Shakib almost had it in the bag for the hosts. But the tourists have managed to dig very deep to win. They're not just flash big-hitters, these lads. They've got plenty of grit and character to go with it.

Ball is hobbling, his face is as red as a tomato and there's sweat pouring off his face. And yet he's going to continue. Of course he is - he's on course for a five-for on debut. You try taking the ball out of his hands.

There's a wide before Taskin punches a drive off the back foot for a single. Ball trudges back to his mark to continue.

Hands and England heads again as Mosharraf gets an edge to prevent the ball crashing into the stumps. The same batsman swings hard at the last two balls but is completely bamboozled by Rashid's variation.

Rashid, who has four wickets to his name, will continue. He spins one in that strikes Mosharraf on the pad. There's a huge appeal but umpire Erasmus shakes his head. Did that spin too much? It was darted in and it came right into the batsman's back leg.
