To steal a phrase from football, England have parked the bus. Nothing risky, nothing adventurous. They are handed a gift as Mehedi chucks one down leg that is missed by the keeper allowing the tourists to run three byes.

  2. Eng 240-7published at 85 overs

Shakib returns to keep up the trial by spin. England now look like they are settling for what they have. There are five overs remaining today.

  4. Eng 239-7published at 84 overs

Solid from Rashid, who takes a big stride and keeps out the final ball. It'll be interesting to see how much bowling Woakes and Broad do in the next innings. Will England stay traditional or chance their arm as Bangladesh have done with Mehedi? It wouldn't be that batty to throw the new ball to Gareth would it?

The on-field umpire is vindicated. The ball was missing down leg.

The danger is that he didn't move his feet at all. I think there's a chance it's going down leg though.

Risky from Rashid. He shoulders arms to a Mehedi ball that looks to be going down leg but prompts a huge appeal and then a review...

Adil Rashid has got a big part to play with the ball, so it's important he stays at the crease and gets used to the conditions. It could be that the pitch is starting to behave a bit better this evening.

  9. Eng 238-7published at 83 overs

    Woakes 26, Rashid 0

Seam is a waste on here. After one over Shafiul is whipped off and Taijul returns. Woakes gets lucky with an inside edge to leg to bring new man Adil Rashid to the striker's end, which is where he remains trapped for the remainder of the over.

What a debut this kid is having. It is no surprise to see him brought back in to the attack and perhaps no surprise that he makes something happen. Bairstow doesn't look comfortable throughout the over, prodding the ball over short leg from one ball, drawing an lbw appeal from another before going back to a skidding short ball and getting cleaned up. Five wickets for Mehedi. A star is born.

  11. Eng 235-6published at 81 overs

    Bairstow 51, Woakes 24

After two balls of Shafiul's over with the old ball, Bangladesh trade it for a new, shiny one. The bowler gets a bit of swing immediately as the ball moves away from Woakes, who drives to deep cover for two. The harder ball is a plus for Woakes later in the over as he drives well to send the ball flying away for four and then edging low through the slips for another boundary.

Bangladesh should take the new ball and give it to the spinners straight away: Shakib and Mehedi. Let's see if they can get the same turn as they did this morning.

Mominul Haque is tossed the ball. He's picked up one wicket in 18 matches. Bit of an experiment in the last over before the new ball. The left-arm off-spinner lobs up six innocuous balls that Bairstow pats back.

    Bairstow 51, Woakes 14

Jonny Bairstow has now scored four Test half-centuries on the bounce. He didn't make any of them a century. Taijul is giving nothing away. He's not making anything happen, though.

  18. Eng 224-6published at 78 overs

Woakes is not a man to turn down a near long hop. Sabbir drops very short and he is on to it, smashing the ball away for four.

Bairstow was dropped on 13 - a regulation catch in the slips - and it's proving very costly. If he scores a few more runs, it will put England in control.

Well played Jonny, son. He brings up his half-century in 111 balls. He is the main man now if England are to reach 300.
