  1. Ban 150-5published at 44 overs

    Target 286

A hostile delivery from Stokes veers in to the diminutive Mushfiqur but he fends it away between slip and gully and it trickles away for four, Stokes disgruntled with Rashid at third man for not getting to it. The 150 up, another milestone.

I don't think it is reversing. They are trying to look at combinations that work. You would think, on this pitch, without blinking, two spinners. However, what we have found is that the spinners don't offer a huge amount of control. They are leaking runs. Cook knows it is not a seamer pitch but he is hoping to bowl dry with them from one end and attack with the spinners from the other.

    Moeen 2-40 off 12

Mushfiqur steps down the wicket to Moeen and lofts him over mid-on, Batty unable to haul the ball in from the boundary despite a valiant slide.

Mark Speller: Big wicket for England. How easy did Bairstow make that catch look?! His keeping has improved so much.

Harry McCrea: Shakib is a big wicket! Feel like the rest of the Bangladeshi order can collapse under the pressure.

  5. Ban 140-5published at 42 overs

    Target 286

Stokes jags one into the pads of the right-handed Mushfiqur but the appeal is stifled, no chance of an lbw.

  6. Ban 140-5published at 41 overs

    Target 286

Is that the key wicket for England? Sabbir Rahman is the new batsman, he looked good for his 19 in the first innings but can he play a more substantial innings today? He's playing plenty of practice shots of intent anyway.

Moeen returns with a pearler, on off stump, spinning away to find the edge and the effervescent Bairstow takes an impressive catch high to his left. Great celebrations from jubilant bowler and wicketkeeper, lots of punching of the air.

The key on this pitch is to bowl six balls on the same length. It's not hard to bowl the magic ball - they've all done it - but England's spinners have struggled to keep it tight for an entire over.

  10. Ban 138-4published at 40 overs

    Target 286

Stokes is probing outside Mushfiqur's off-stump and he is up at 87mph with just a hint of reverse. Playing the long game.

  12. Ban 136-4published at 39 overs

    Target 286

Is wily Athar using a bit of reverse psychology there? Sharp spin into the left-hander from Rashid round the wicket but neatly cut away by Shakib for two. Comfortable for Bangladesh, one might say.

    Former Bangladesh all-rounder

If England can manage to pick up another wicket I think it is impossible for Bangladesh. But while they are here there is some hope. They have added 22. Now they need to think about the next 20. Take it step by step. But right at the moment, England are on top.

Stokes continues, England hoping for some early signs of reverse swing but not much on offer so far. Joe Root is the polisher in the team and he appears to be using his sleeve for the task rather than the more familiar inside of thigh as favoured by Vyvyan in the Young Ones.

Shakib is looking pretty good and going at a decent rate. I think it is a lot to do with Mushfiqur steadying the ship. When you look at the lead now - 156 - it could just be whittled away. I think we are in for a result today.

This crowd do not take much to reach fever pitch and a six will certainly have them dancing in the aisles, a mighty drive from Shakib high and handsome over long-on. Rashid ruefully ponders the complexities of Test cricket and it's time for drinks.

Shakib could have a rush of blood at any moment. More likely off the spinner. I think he will show Stokes more respect.

  19. Ban 122-4published at 36 overs

    Shakib 11, Mushfiqur 4

Here's the man many England fans will have wondered was going to enter the fray, Ben Stokes, who had that spell of 4-10 in Bangladesh's first innings. He had Mushfiqur caught behind during that but it was not until the 72nd over. Early 80s-mph to start with and both batsmen take singles.
