  1. Ban 120-4published at 35 overs

    Target 286

There are a few puffs of dust when the ball pitches but there is significantly more debris caused by the swish of the bat when Shakib forcefully drives the final ball of Rashid's over back past the bowler for his first boundary.

  2. Ban 115-4published at 34 overs

    Target 286

Mushfiqur is one of the few batsmen Batty can tower over but the Bangaldesh captain and wicketkeeper, who has 15 Test fifties and three centuries with an average of 32, takes a single off the final ball of the over.

  4. Ban 114-4published at 33 overs

    Rashid 1-17 off 8

Rashid's towel falls out of the back of his trousers on his approach to the crease so the batsman backs away and the offending towel is kept by umpire Gaffaney. Two more for Shakib out to deep cover.

Many of you will remember a 37-year-old Udal bowling England to a famous victory in India 10 years ago...

  6. Ban 111-4published at 32 overs

    Batty 2-41 off 12

Batty's dander is up, it is very rarely anywhere else in truth. He is finding spin wide of off-stump but Shakib is not tempted yet.

Gordon Thursdfield: Beware of umpires wearing shades. Thank goodness for the review system.

Adam Wheeler: Cliche time: This is the type of pitch if one wicket falls another could follow quickly.

  8. Ban 111-4published at 31 overs

    Target 286

The crowd were reduced to silence by that last wicket but they can emit a little cheer as Shakib pinches a single from the final ball of Rashid's over. Nelson for Bangladesh.

This is exciting. England made some really good decisions coming in to this tour, picking youngsters like Hameed, but also selecting a 39-year-old in Batty who is one of the best spinners on the circuit. He is bowling full, he is aggressive, he is so fired up.

The 23rd review of the match and it has not gone Bangladesh's way. It was pitching on off-stump as Mahmudullah played around it and it was predicted to spin back in and hit middle. Umpire Dharmasena nonchalantly confirms the dismissal as if to say 'I told you so.'

  11. Umpire reviewpublished at 30 overs

Batty, from round the wicket, has Mahmudullah lbw. The batsman immediately reviews it, perhaps because it is beleaguered umpire Dharmasena.

Bangladesh are going about this the right way. They need to keep the scoreboard ticking over. If they slow the run-rate and try to dig in, it will play into England's hands.

  13. Ban 106-3published at 29 overs

    Target 286

Mahmudullah picks up two with a thick edge off Rashid low past slip. Will Bangladesh maintain their aggressive approach?

It is a great reaction from Batty. In the millisecond of the moment when the finger goes up, you understand someone yelling and putting their arms in the air but when there has been a three-minute delay it is a bit incongruous. Batty has not bowled up his highest standard but a wicket can help so much.

  15. Ban 103-3published at 28 overs

    Target 283

Shakib Al Hasan. No wildlunge at his first ball and Batty, feeling much better about things, takes his white broad brimmed sun hat from the umpire.

England do not care which method of dismissal it is, but it was lbw, just pitching on leg stump and straightening. No doubt relieved, an exuberant Batty thuds a high five..into the midriff of 6ft 6" Stuart Broad.

  17. Umpire reviewpublished at 08:02 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Batty is convinced there is bat on this sweep, caught at slip, it might be lbw if there is no bat, but England are gambling on their final review.

Andy White: My prediction is a Bangladesh collapse around the 200 mark with England winning by about 40 runs. Glass half full person today.

Chris Brown: England will win comfortably, but I would like it to be much less than comfortable to give Bangladeshis real hope for future.

  19. Ban 103-2published at 27 overs

    Rashid 1-8 off 5

Significantly more spin for Rashid but he cannot get the ball pitching in the right place at the moment, Bairstow taking some above his shoulders wide of off-stump. But England keep the runs at bay at least, with a maiden.

The batsmen know that, on pitches like this, they might get a ball they can do nothing about. So by attacking the bowlers, they make them panic and bowl badly.
