  1. Ban 103-2published at 26 overs

    Target 286

Some spin for Batty but the batsmen are playing it fairly comfortably off the pitch, Mahmudullah picks up three off the glove that flies just above the gloves of Bairstow down the leg-side and Mominul doesn't even need to play it off the pitch as he brings up the 100 by dispatching a wretched full toss through mid-wicket for four.

The only team I would back to get this total on this wicket would be India, possibly South Africa.

  3. Ban 94-2published at 25 overs

    Target 286

Rashid, thick beard nestling in the collar of his open neck shirt, drops a fraction short and is punched firmly off the back foot by Mahmudullah for a couple as Bangladesh keep the scoreboard ticking along.

We're watching a key moment in England's evolution. They're not used to having this balance, with three spinners. And there's an argument that they should have played four.

  5. Ban 91-2published at 24 overs

    Mominul 22, Mahmudullah 6

Evergreen Gareth Batty, 39 years young, takes up the attack with a similar field in place but he drops short and the diminutive left-hander Mominul cuts him away for three to raucous shrieks from the crowd.

Alastair Cook still has a few headaches, even though his side are marginal favourites. The crowd has increased as they sense a famous victory.

  7. Ban 86-2published at 23 overs

    Target 286

There are plenty of people in, 99.99% of them hoping for a Bangladesh victory. Rashid resumes the attack, with a slip, leg gully and short-leg all crouching for a catch and it's a maiden, only the fourth of the innings.

English smugness slowly fading into blind panic and worry about the impending defeat.

Thanks Phil, let's just assess the situation. This is Bangladesh's 94th Test and they have only won seven. The only teams they have beaten are Zimbabwe and the sadly not what they were - at Test level anyway - West Indies. They have lost all eight previous matches against England but need 200 more to claim a famous victory.

We're going to have a change up in the commentary chair. Jamie Lillywhite is taking over to guide you through what is likely to be a crucial second session. All yours, JL.

I'm really enjoying this Test match, it's swaying back and forth. The opening partnership made you think Bangladesh could race to this total by tea but England will back themselves, the ball is still turning.

On these tours, it's all about calculating supplies. Yoghurt bars - I've brought 70 of them, two a day. Likewise, cappuccino sachets - I've got 100 of them. But I'm getting through both of them at an alarming rate.

If Bangladesh continue this fine start, word will get round and the fans will flood in to the ground. The ones already inside are getting excitable.

Bangladesh feel their best chance is to be positive, they are a one-day team I suppose, they haven't played Test cricket for 14 months.

    Ban 86-2

Mahmudullah isn't messing about. He continues the 'attack is the best form of defence' mentality. He dances down to Moeen's first ball and gets two with a wild swipe and then gets a couple more with a top edge from a sweep that loops over short fine leg Woakes.

Moeen looks to hit back with a full ball that prompts an appeal after striking the pad but the umpire isn't convinced.

That is lunch. Bangladesh need 200 runs. England need eight wickets. I need a lie down.

Beg to differ that this is a "low" total. Very rarely in Test history have teams scored over 280 in fourth innings to WIN a match. Patience, proactive bowling changes and judicious use of "in out" field placing will be key.
