  1. Masterful Moeenpublished at 05:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2016

Here is Moeen's wagon wheel, you think of all those elegant cover drives but the majority of his runs came through the legside.

  2. First hour summarypublished at 05:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2016

So England resumed on 311-4 and have added 60 for the loss of one wicket in that first hour, with eight fours and a six. Enterprising stuff.

It's easier to set targets in the press area than it is in the dressing room. It's easy to complicate the issue by saying 'we'd like to score X'. You need as many as you can get. I've been impressed by England. Stokes has looked good all morning and Bairstow has just announced himself.

Masterful from Bairstow, using that high backlift to excellent effect, one stride down the wicket to Mishra and over the sightscreen it sails for six of the best. Time for a drink. I have to report that my tea, very kindly prepared for me, has got too much milk in it. Shame.

  5. Eng 363-5published at 107 overs

    Stokes 47, Bairstow 6

There is some significant turn and bounce for Ashwin now and the pitch has some noticeable cracks. Stokes savours the backfoot force and he brings it out to good effect again to pick up two more deep into the off side.

It was a superb series in Bangladesh and in Mehedi Hasan, we may have seen one of the most significant cricketers of the next decade. The pitches turned, but he was only 18 at the start of the series. He's a real talent.

  7. Eng 361-5published at 106 overs

The bearded Mishra continues, with a slip, a short-leg and a short extra cover in place for any blemish. None offered, but just the single is scored.

  8. Eng 360-5published at 105 overs

Three successive overs without a boundary which is something of a rarity, though both batsmen collect singles from Ashwin.

There's life in the pitch with the new ball and we've seen England's batsmen show intent. Both sides are going at it pretty hard.

  10. Eng 358-5published at 104 overs

    Stokes 43, Bairstow 5

An all-spin attack as the diminutive Amit Mishra joins the attack. The top four Test run-scorers this year are all England players and Bairstow is at the top of the list. He scampers a quick single and this purposeful running between the wickets is one of the reasons he has accumulated all those runs.

  12. Eng 356-5published at 103 overs

    Ashwin 2-119 from 34 overs

Bairstow is averaging 66 in Tests this year and he sweeps Ashwin for two to get off the mark.

This is a great spectacle. Shami is rushing in, the wicket is true and Stokes looks ominous. He's timing the ball extremely well, he's playing straight - he knows it, too.

  14. Eng 352-5published at 102 overs

    Stokes 42, Bairstow 0

A delightful drive down the ground from Stokes to Shami fizzes down the ground for the left-hander's sixth four of the innings as the 350 comes up for England.

The big advance for Stokes is that he is much more confident defending against spinners. He says he has worked very hard on this aspect of his game. He had previously struggled with pace off the ball. Now he can get bedded in before he lets his attacking instincts loose.

  16. Eng 346-5published at 101 overs

Stokes is able to turn Ashwin off his pads for two more to keep the scoreboard flowing. England have gone six innings without reaching 400 but surely that will end in this one?

That's livened everyone up. It was spectacular. The off stump must have travelled seven or eight feet after it was hit. It just shaped in, but it's odd to see a batsman who has been playing so well make such a mistake.

  18. Eng 343-5published at 100 overs

    Stokes 33, Bairstow 0

Jonny Bairstow the new man, with his 1,000-plus runs for the calendar year. He flicks at one down the legside and skipper Virat Kohli appeals from the slip cordon, but no cigar.

What a bit of cricket! Shami has been the best of the two seamers today - he has bowled with control. It kept on coming back at Moeen and it's a misjudgment. The ball held its line, it just kept coming. Well bowled.

A magnificent innings comes to an end in rather tame fashion, Moeen offers no shot to Shami, it angles in a fraction from round the wicket and knocks out the off pole. Shrieks of delight from the crowd and the bowler with something of a shy, surprised smile.
